MEETING OF JANUARY 4~ 19~
The Organization meeting of the Southold Town Board was held
at the office ofSuoervmsor' Norman~ E. Klipp at GreenpOrt~ on
Tuesday~ January 4~-19~. The meeting was called to Order at
1:30 P.M. with the following present~ Supervisor Klipp; Justices
Tuthill~ Atbertson~ Clark and Demarest; ~uperintendent of High-
ways Price~ To~u~ Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
Moved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Justice Albertson:
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the previous meeting be and hereby
are duly approved as read.

RESOLVED: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board

RESOLVED:~ That the Police Report for the nonth of December be

The Supervisor read a letter from Mrs. Eloise Bowden requesting
fonr weeks vacation through the month of February.

RESOLVED: That the Town Board does hereby grant ~s. Eloise
Bowden fou~ weeks vacation as requested~ starting as of February
l, 19~ through February 14th with pay and a leave of absence
be granted Mrs. Bowden from February l~ through February 28
without pay.

RESOLVED: That Rensselaer G. Terry~ Jr.~ Town Attorney~ for the
Town of Southold~ be and he hereby is authorizad to obtain such
legal assistance and incurr such expenses as he may deem necessary
in the forthcoming action of John A. Harvey versus Town Of
Southold~ etal.

~ meetin~ of the Southold Town Board will be held at the
Southold Town Dump~ at Cutch~ On Tuesday~ January 18~ 19~
at 1:3~ P.M. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss with
Frank McBride the storm damage done at the Towa Dump during the
hurricanes this past summer.

ise for sealed proposals to furnish the Town of Southold two (2)
D-door sedan standard model automobiles~ According to specific-

on January 2~ 19~.

or authorize the Supervisor of the Town to act as such official~
now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That Norman E. Klipp~ Supervisor, be and he hereby is
authorized to act as Public ~elfare Officer at the pleasure of the
Town Board~ and be it further
RESOLYED~ ~hat Norman E. Klipp~ serve in such capacity without com-
pensation, and be it further
RESOLVED~ That the Town Clerk be instructed to file such certificate
with the proper parties as is required by Section 30~ Subdivision 3~
of the Town Law.

WHERF~S~ It is required by Section 148 of the Education Law that
a local Historian shall be appointed by the Supervisor of a Town~ and
~EAS~ The Supervisor has appointed Wayland Jefferson to act as
Town Historian now: therefors~ be it
RESOLVED: That Wayland Jefferson be compensated while act~n_ g in such
caPacity in the amount of Four ~undred Forty ~ollars ($440.00) per
~ear~ payable in regular monthly payments~ and be it further
RESOLVED: T-hat the expenses incurred per year by the Town M~storian
in the performance of his duties be paid(bythe~ Town in an amount
not to exceed One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) per year~
and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be instructed to file such certificate
with the proper parties as is required by Section 30~ Subdivision 3~
of the Town Law.

WHEREAS~ it is required under Section 303 of the Multiple Resident
Law that a Building Inspector be appointed, now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That Edwin S. Conklin be and hereby is appointed Building
Inspector for the To~ of Southold until January l~ 19~6~ and be
it further
RESOLVED~ That Edwin S. Conklin be compensated for such services
in the sum of Thirteen ~Undred Twenty Dollars ($1~320.00) per year~
payable in regular monthly payments, and be it further
RESOLVED, ~hat thi~ appointment take effect as of January 1~ 19~,
and be it further
RESOLVED~ That the Town Clerk be instructed to file such certificate
with the proper parties as is required by Section 30~ subdivision
3~ of the Town Law.

WHEREAS~ Section 22 b of the Town Law allows the Town Board of any
Town having more than one assessor to establish the office of Chair-
ma~of To~¢n Assessors who in addition to his regular duties shall
.perform such services in connection with assessment and taxation of~
prope~ty~for state~ county and town purposes~ as the Town Board shall
direct~ now therefore be it
RESOLVED~ That RAYMOND W. TERRY~ be and hereby is designated to hold
the office of Chairman of the Town Board of Assessors until the
first day of~January next succeeding such designation all in accor-~
dance with 22b of the Town Law, and be it further
RESOLVED~ That compensation for such appointment be fixed at
$1~000~0~ per year~ payable in regula~ mo~thly~payments.

WHEREAS,The Town Board may require an~v Bank so designated t? dep~s~

WHEREAS~ Section 62 of the Town Law requires that every Town Board
shall meet on or after the ?Sth day of December~ but not later than
the 31st day of December~ in each year~ and
WHEREAS~ There is no other time specified by law when meetings of the
Town Board of~a Second Class Town should be held~ now therefore be it
RESOLVED~ That the SUPervisor be and hereby is empowered to call all
meetings of the Town Board as may be required for the best interest
of the Town~ and be it further
EESOLVED~ That the Supervisor designate Tuesday as the day of the
week for calling such meetings~ and be it further
RESOLVED~ That each member of the Town Board be ~iven at least 2
days notice in advance of such meeting~ notice to contein the time and
place where such meeting is to be held.

RESOLVED~ That the ~ssessors of the Town of Southold who use their
own automobiles in the performance of their duties for the To~m will
be compensated for the use of such automobiles in an amount not to
exceed Eight Cents ($.08¢) per mile.

RESOL~_~ED~ That the Suffolk Times~ Greenport~ New York~ and the Long
Island Traveler-Mattituck Watcb_man~ Southold~ New York~ be and hereby
are designated as the official newspapers to publish the notice
of the Receiver of Taxes that he is in receipt of such ta~ and assess-
ment roll and warrants~ and that the taxes and assessment therein
may be paid to the Receiver at the times and with penalty other
than his principal office when and where he will attend for the receiot
of taxes and assessments in accordance with Section 22 of the Suffolk
County Tax Act.

Within sixty (60) days after the close of the fiscal year the
Treasurer of each Fire Distr~ct 'sh all file i~ the office of the
To~ Gl~rk and the State Comptroller a financial statement setting
forth in detail the receipts and expenditures of the Fire District
for the previous fiscal year. (Section 181 of the Town Law).
On or before the l~th day of January in each year the CommiSsioners
of each Improvement District shhll ~ile with the Totem Clerk a
financial report for the preceding year. (Section' 21~ SubdivisLon._
9~ of the Town Eaw).
The Town Glerk should advise the Town Board as to existing con?
tracts~ for lighting~ garbage collection~ fire protection~ water
~upD~y}iand also leases of any property rented by the To~, and
specify the date of expiration of such contracts. (Sebtion 2 & !9~
Section 183~ 1~4 and 198~ subdivision 6~7~8 and 9 of the Town Law).
The Town Clerk should supply to the executive Secretary of the
Association of ~owns at the Hotel TenEyck~ New York~ a correct
list of the names and addresses of all Town Officers and the
Supervisor should advise the members that he~ the Town ~lerk~ J~stices
of the Peace~ Superintendent of Highways~ Assessors~ Welfare
Off~cer~ and the Town Attorney will receive copies of meetings~
bulletins~ issued by the Town end ~ounty Officers Training School
on subjects of in~erest~ and importance to various officers.
