HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-03/04/1980-S'S'OUTHO'LD TOWN BOARD March 4, 1980 A special meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Tuesday, March 4, 1980 at the Southold Town Hall, Main Road, Southold, New York. Supervisor Pell opened the meeting at 3:00 P.M. with the following present: Absent: Supervisor William R. Pell III Councilman Henry W. Drum Councilman Lawrence Murdock, Jr. Councilman George R. Sullivan Town Clerk Judith T. Terry Town Attorney Robert W. Tasker Justice Francis T. Doyen Councilman John J. Nickles The following resolution was offered by Councilman Murdock, seconded by Councilman Drum. WHEREAS, the owners of real property located along the Long Island Sound shoreline in the Town of Southold have in recent years experienced seuere erosion, and WHEREAS, the property owners located along Leeton Drive at Southold have asserted that the erosion to their properties may, to some degree, be caused by the jetty located at Goldsmith's Inlet at Peconic, which jetty was constructed many years ago ~ointly by the County of Suffolk and the Sqate of New Yo~kr pursuant to Chapter 535 of the Laws of 1945, as amended, and WHEREAS, the Town and County officials held a meeting on February 29, 1980.to consider the matter of beach erosion along Long Island Sound in the Town of Southold at wbick meeting it was agreed that a consulting firm should be retained by the County to conduct studies and ma~e recommendations with respect to beach erosion in the vicinity of Godlsmith's Inlet. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED, that the Town of Southold does hereby request that the County of Suffolk or an agency thereof, retain the services of a qualified consulting firm to conduct appropriate surveys and studies of beach erosion along the shore of Long Island Sound at Peconic and Southold in'the Town of Southold, with particular emphaszs on the effect, if any, that the jetty at Goldsmith's Inlet may have on beach erosion in the vicinity thereof and that such study contain such recommendations as the consultant may deem appropriate, and it is further RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the appropriate County agencies. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Councilman Sullivan, Councilman MurdOck, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell. This resolution was declared duly adopted. On motion of Councilman Murdock, seconded by Councilmah Sullivan, it was RESOLVED that a recess be called at 3:20 P.M. to go into Executive Session. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Councilman Sullivan, CoUncilman ~rdock, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell. This resolution was declared duly adopted. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board discussed the absence from duty of employee John Nierodzik. Meeting reconvened at 3:35 P.M. .- On motion of Councilman Sullivan, seconded by Councilman Murdock, it was RESOLVED that there being no further business to come before this special meeting of the Southold Town Board adjournment be called at 3:35 P.M.
