'SOUTHOLD' TOWN 'BOA!RD
A special meeting of the SOuthold Town Board was.held at 4:00 P.M.,
Monday, April 27, 1981 at the South01d Town Hall, Main Road,
Southold, New York.. Board members signed a Waiver of Notice of
Town Board meeting.
Present:

The Board discussed the distribution of the ~obins Island Advisory
.~ommittee's Final Report which had been received from the printer.
Initial distribution is as follows: Town Board members, Town Clerk,
Town Attorney, Robins Island Advisory Committee members, County
Executive Cohalan, Lee E. Koppelman, Legislator BIass, Assemblyman
Behan, Senator LaVatle, Southold Town Trustees, Planning Board,
Board of Appeals, Conservation ~dvisory Council, Greenport High
School Library, Southold High School Library, Mattituck-Cutchogue
High School Library, 2 each to the Floyd Memorial Library, Southold
Free Library, Cutchogue Free Library, Mattituck Free Library and
one to the Fishers ISland Public Library, The Suffolk Times, Long
Island Traveler-Watchman, Inc., Suffolk Life, Newsday.
Councilman Nickles asked that the tapes of the meetings of the Robins
Island Advisory Committee be filed with the Town Clerk.
Councilman Murdock discussed a trip he proposed to take to Albany,
New York on April 28th to tostify before t~e Public Service Commiss-
ion concerning the~con~truction of a coal fired generating facility
by Long Island Lighting Company at Jamesport. Councilman Murdock
had prepared a report To the Town Board on'April 8, 1980 concerning
the LILCO Coal Conversion Report. A copy of his report had been
given to the Suffolk County Committee on Pure Waters chaired by
Legislator Foley and he was asked if he would be willing to
testify before the Public Service Commission at the appropriate
time. The Board members felt. his testimony would be of great
importance since such a proposed plant would have tremendous
impact upon the Town of Southold.
On motion of Councilman Murphy, seconded by Councilman Drum, it was
RESOLVED that Councilman Lawrence Murdock, Jr. be and he hereby is
authorized to travel to ~lbany, New York on April 28, 1981 to
testify before the Public Service Commission relative to the
proposed construction of a coal fired generating facility by Long
Island Lighting Company at Jamesport, New York, and be it further
RESOLVED that the cost for travel, mileage and meals shall be a
legal charge against the Town of Southold.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Councilman Murphy, Councilman

Moved by Councilman Murdock, seconded by Councilman Nicktes,
WHEREAS, the To~n Board of the Town of Southold has considered
the impacz on the environment of the Town of Southold based on
facts available in reports printed by the Long Island Lighting
Company, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold does believe the
effects would cause serious damage to the ground water, coastline
action, air quality, and purity of the water of Long Island Sound,
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold does hereby
object to the construction of a coal fired generating facility bv

Lone Island Lighting Company, or any other ~ompany or agency at
~amesport, New York-.
Vote of the Town B~ard: Ayes: Councilman Murphy, Councilman
Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Councilma'n Drum, Supervisor Pell.
This resolution was declared duly adopted..
The above resolution, as well as a copy of Councilman Murd0ck's
report to the Town Board dated April 8, 1980 concerning the LILCO
Coal Conversion Report will be submitted by the Public Service
Commission in Albany by Councilman Murdock.
On motion of Supervisor Pell, seconded by Councilman Murphy, it was
RESOLVED that there being no further .business to come before this
Town Board meeting adjournment be called at 4:40 P.M.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Councilman Murphy, Councilman
Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell.
This'resolution was declared duly adopted.
