REPORTS Carol Brown and Nancy May attended the Board of Trustees meeting on April 16th. The Trustees accepted the recommendations submitted on behalf of the CAC with regard to the application made on behalf of 34460 Route 25, Cutchogue. The Trustees discussed an application for a pool on Ackerly Pond Road during their work session. Carol Brown described the proposed plan for a swimming pool and the CAC felt strongly that there was no room for a pool and should not permitted in the wetlands. Inga Van Eysden was pleased to share that the Town agreed to take the Mayor's Monarch Butterly Pledge. Specific actions the community has already taken are the native gardens at Custer Preserve, public outreach to encourage people to use native plants, and the designation of Custer Preserve as a Monarch stopover. CLIMATE SMART COMMUNITIES Inga Van Eysden e-mailed several pledge element items to Gwynn Schroeder for her review. Councilman Mealy will follow-up with her for a response. The CSC website has a list of submitted actions, which have been accepted by the State. There are still many pledge elements to pursue. UPDATES ON OTHER TOWN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEES Carol Brown asked Anne Murray for an update on the Land Preservation Committee. The committee is in the process of negotiating 3 or 4 parcels. Maggie Merrill updated the CAC on the Water Advisory Committee. Their next meeting is scheduled for May 8th. They will be reviewing the draft Irrigation Code and the Zoning Code Update. Carol asked that the CAC members review the draft Irrigation Code and send any comments to her by June 1st ZONING CODE UPDATE REVIEW Carol Brown asked the CAC members to share any comments on their initial review of the Zoning Code Update. They noted that the proposed code does not include sea level rise, coastal resiliency, or an aquifer overlay protection district. The members discussed areas of concern in preparation for the public meeting on Mon., May 12th. It was agreed that their top 6 areas of concern were trees, water, coastal resilience and safety, an aquifer protection district, lights, and lot coverage. The committee should also be looking at marine uses. Carol suggested that the members decide which areas they would be interested in working on for a future discussion. NEW BUSINESS. Maggie Merrill reported that a Repair Cafe was recently held at the Floyd Memorial Library and was a huge success. She asked if the CAC would be interested in coordinating an event in October, or at a later date next year. The event could be held at the Recreation 3 Center on the same day as the paper shredding event, organized by Nick Krupski, Solid Waste Coordinator. Maggie will prepare an outline of talking points then she and Carol will request a meeting with Nick. The CAC discussed the need for Town Code to address gas powered leaf blowers. Inga suggested the CAC take a look at the Code adopted by the Village of Greenport. Burke Liburt will work with Inga on gas-powered leaf blowers, adding a science angle. Barbara Friedman asked for the status of the plans for the new Police Dept. When the plans are available to the public, she will review the design and materials and write a statement on behalf of the CAC to the Town Board. John Chandler and Burke Liburt will attend the Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Wed., May 14, 2025.
