This information was prepared by E2Sys and will be utilized -for approval by the Town of Southold and for construction of the proposed system. Based on the above dOCuMritatlon, 1 have evaluated the Structural capacity of the existing system to support the additional loads described below, imposed by the solar panel arrays and offer the following comments. The existing roof types are as follows: Solar Arrays#1, 2: Solar Arrays#3, 4: Single layer of asphalt shingles, Single layer of asphalt shingles, '5/8"thick plywood decking, -5/8"thick plywood decking, 2"x10" at 16" on center Douglas Fir rafters, 2"x10" at 16" on center Douglas Fir rafters, 4"x6" Douglas Fir ceiling joists at mid point, (3) 2"x10" Douglas Fir Purlin, Roof pitch 21°. Roof pitch 21°. Solar Array#5: Single layer of asphalt shingles, *5/8"thick-plywood decking, 2"x6" at W on center Douglas Fir rafters, Roof pitch 00 : 1 Structural Analysis: The structural analysis has been carried out using the following design criteria: Design wind speed: 130 mph Ground snow load: 20 Ibs/sq. ft. Solar Array#1, Dead toad: 2.4 lbs/sq.ft. Solar Array#2, Dead Load: 2.6 Ibs/sq. ft. Solar Arrays#3, 4, Dead Load: 2.6 Ibs/sq. ft. Solar Array 45, Dead Load'. 2.7 Ibs/sq.-ft. Total Array#1 Weight: 231.8 Ibs Total Array#2 Weight: 51.4 Ibs Total Arrays#3, 4 Weight,(each): 205.7 Ibs Total Array#5 Weight: 676.4 Ibs The above values are within acceptable Limits of recognized industry standards for similar structures. The structural analysis, performed for the existing structure and for the solar panel arrays, utilizing the above design loads, indicates that the existing roofs will be able to support the additional panel weightwithout damage,-if-installed correctly. The onsite inspection and the photographs show that the roof framing is in good conditions. However, the building owners are to be made aware that long term build up of heavy snow conditions may produce deflections in the roof structure. If any deflection is noticed, than it is recommended that-the solar panels be cleared of accumulated snow more than one(1)foot deep over a period of one week. If no deflections are visible under any snow loading over a period of time, then there is no need to clear the solar panels. Based on the above evaluation, it is the opinion of the undersigned professional engineer, that with appropriate solar panel anchors being utilized, the roof system will adequately supportthe additional loading imposed by the solar panel arrays. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2020 Residential Code of New York State, SEI/ASCE 7-16 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures", 2017 NFPA Standard 70"National Electrical Code", current Industry standards and practice and based on documentation and data Supplied by E2Sys at the time of this report. This information was prepated by E2Sys and will be utilized for approval by the Town of Southold and for construction of the proposed system. Based on the above documentation, I'have evaluated the structural capacity of the existing system to.support the.additional loads described below, imposed by the solarpanel arrays and offer the following comments. The existing roof types are as follows: Solar Arrays#1, 2 : Solar Arrays#3, 4: Single layer of asphalt shingles, Single layer of asphalt shingles, 5/8"thick plywood decking, 5/8"thick plywood decking, 2"x10" at 16' on center Douglas Fir rafters, 2"x10" at 16' on center"Douglas Fir rafters, 4"x6" Douglas Fir ceiling joists at mid point, (3)2"x10" Douglas Fir Purl in, Roof-pitch 210. Roof pitch 210. Solar Array#5: Single layer of asphalt shingles, 5/8" thick plywooa decking, 2"A 0"at 16' on center Douglas Fir rafters, Roof pitch 150. 1 Structural Analysis: The structural analysis has been carried out using the following design eritefia Design wind speed: A30 mph Ground snow.load: 20 Ibs/sq. ft.. Solar Array#1, Dead Load:. . 2.4 " 'Ibs/sq.."ft. Solar Array#2, Dead Load: - .. 2.6 Ibs/sq.-ft.- Solar Arrays#3, 4, Dead Load: 2.6 Ibs%sq.A. Solar Array#5, Dead Load: 2.7 Ibs/sq. ft. Total Array#1 Weight: 231.8 Ibs Total Array#2 Weight: 51.4 Ibs Total Arrays#3,4 Weight'(each): 205.7 Ibs Total Array#5 Weight:- 676:4 Ibs The above values are within acceptable, limits of recognized industry standards for similar structures. The structural analysis, performed for the existing structure.and for the solar panel arrays, utilizing the above design loads, indicates that the existing roofs will be able to support -the additional panel'Weight-Withoutdamage,-if installed correctly. The onsite inspection and the photographs show that the roof framing is in good conditions. However,.the building owners are to be made aware that long term, build up of- heavy snow conditions may.produce deflections in the roof structure_ If any deflectionis noticed, than it is recommended that the solar panels be,cleared of accumulated snow more than one(1)foot deep over a period of one week If no deflections are visible under any snow loading over a period of time, then there is no need to clear the solar panels. Based on the above evaluation, it is the opinion of the undersigned professional engineer, that With appropriate solar panel anchors being utilized, the roof system will adequately support the additional loading imposed by the solar panel arrays. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2020 Residential Code of New York State, SEVASCE 7-16 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures", 2017 NFPA Standard 70.National Electrical Code", current- industry standards and practice and based on documentation and data supplied by E2Sy8 at the time of this report.
