The Supervisor read a letter on behalf of the Village cf
Board of the Village of Greenport~ requesting that the
proposed Brooklyn to Riverhead Parkway be extended east-
erly to Orient ?oint. It was pointed out ~hat on ~y
~19~2~ Supervisor Norman E, Klipphad requested such action
and had been advised at that time that his request would
be considered.
Following is a copy of the letter -written by Oscar Go!din.
Gentlemen~
I appear before you today with the full approval
of the Greenport Village Board who have read this statement
and fully approve it.
Regarding the new expressway on L.I. I am aware
of your Supervisor~s efforts in this situation but what
he has done is not enough. Many of us are of the opinion
that the people of this end of the Island are entitled to
more and better roads and I am here to ask that you take
steps to ~etition the authorities in charge and ask that
they make'plans to incorporate an e~tension of this new
parkway to continue to Orient Point and the State Park,
A fu_~er reason for this plan is the announcement in
Saturdays paper that the new clans for building on Plum
Island have been released. The Village Board adopted a
resolution a~king for this road and a copy was sent to
the L.I. Park CommisSion who acknowledged the document
but did not promise any assistance. Two efforts have
been made to contact Gov. Dewey and to date he or his
office have not responded.
The other problem is the request from the~reen-
port ~iltage Board and them from the Suffolk ~ounty Village
Officials Assoc, that the Board of Supervisors take steps
to have the entire county re-evaluated by a firm of ~ro-
fessionat appraisers who ~o this work scientifically ~nd
then have the local appraisers carry on. The very fact
that everyone in office admits that many inequalities
exist is and should be reason enough for this work to be
done without delay. Thru the papers and then from your
Supervisor I found out the reason that this plan was
shelved is that a building program is on the way, What
has one thing to do w.ith the other, Having appeared be-
fore you some time ago about a similar problem ~ believe
that you are will aware of the problem I am presenting and
~ would ask that some member of ~our Board present a motion
directing your Supervisor to do likewise at the next meet-
ing of the Suffolk County Board of Supervisors so that
a vote will have to be taken and that we misht all know
whether the Board will or will not undertak$ this prop-
osition.
Oscar Goldin
~ved b%3 Justice Albertsoh; seconded by Justice Clark:
RE~0~VED: That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp ce and he hereby
is authorized to take the matter up with Senator Horton?
Assemblymen Lupton~ and the State Department of Public
Works.
Vote of Town Board:Ayes-Supervisor Ktipp; Justices Tuthil!;
~!bertson~ Clark and Demarest.
In regard to the Greenport Village Boards request for a re-
sppraisai of assessments on real property of the entire
County~ the matter was held over for further consideration,
~djourrmaent was at ~:30 P.M.
