1. Minutes tabled from November and December's.
2. Follow-up on request to Lower Nassau Point speeds from 30MPH to 25MPH.
Responses from Town Attorney and Planning regarding road classifications. Also
discuss the Leeton Drive area's request.
3. Follow up on NYSDOT issues on #25: Issues broken out as discussed in December:
1. Infrastructure:
1. Flooding issues on #25 especially Port of Egypt.
2. Can NYSDOT maintain the drainage pipes under #25 between Orient
Broad Meadow and the wetland to the north. The Town has cleaned out
the pipes under #25 at Port of Egypt.
2.Transportation:
1. As our Main Road #25 cuts through each hamlet, we have pedestrian
crossing issues. We request a field visit to explore safety improvements
that will additionally support economic vitality, quality of life and
increased alternative modes of travel. What can the State provide or do
to make these safer? Moveable Yield-to-Pedestrian signs? Lights?
Other?
2. Lowering the speed limit on #25 from 45 to 30MPH from Port of Egypt to
Silvermere then down to the 25MPH east to the current speed of 25MPH
east of Moores Lane in the incorporated Village.
3. What options would NYSDOT consider to improve our bicycle and
pedestrian Infrastructure: Would NYSDOT consider a test of flexible
delineators protecting the shoulder between Southold and Greenport?
Could flexible delineators be installed on the shoulder stripe at
crosswalks to prevent vehicles passing on the right of cars stopped for
pedestrians?
4. What does NYSDOT think about federal grant opportunities that can help
with traffic calming, etc.?
3. Follow-up on transit discussion including on-demand as they have on the South
Fork. Previously Mary Bess expressed need to tackle volume of vehicles, only
one road to Orient and the ferry, need a shift to mass transit. Should the Cross
Sound Ferry provide a bus to the LIRR, Hampton Jitney and ferry to Shelter
Island? Suffolk County bus picks up at the Orient ferry but the Greenport stop is
over by the grocery. Need to prepare memo to Town Board with
recommendations.
4. Police data updates.
5. New business:
6. Next Meeting: 2/24 at 10:30AM
7. PROPOSED DATES FOR 2025: 2/24, 3/17, 4/21, 5/19, 6/16, 7/21, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20,
11/17, 12/15
