1. Minutes
2. Request to Lower Nassau Point speeds from 30MPH to 25MPH. Study identified lack of
shoulder for walkers/cyclists, curving roads with elevation changes that block sightlines.
3. North Road #48 to #25 - Confirm email vote for the attached email from us to Town Board
4. Follow up on NYSDOT issues on #25: Decided to discuss in December focusing on crosswalks
and speed limits in preparation for presenting to the Town Board in January. Full list of issues:
1. Flooding issues on #25 especially Port of Egypt.
2. Can NYSDOT maintain the drainage pipes under #25 between Orient Broad Meadow
and the wetland to the north. The Town has cleaned out the pipes under #25 at Port of
Egypt.
3. As our Main Road #25 cuts through each hamlet, we have pedestrian crossing issues.
We request a field visit to explore safety improvements that will additionally support
FINAL economic vitality, quality of life and increased alternative modes of travel. What
can the State provide or do to make these safer? Moveable Yield-to-Pedestrian signs?
Lights? Other?
4. What options would NYSDOT consider to improve our bicycle and pedestrian
Infrastructure: Would NYSDOT consider a test of flexible delineators protecting the
shoulder between Southold and Greenport? Could flexible delineators be installed on
the shoulder stripe at crosswalks to prevent vehicles passing on the right of cars
stopped for pedestrians?
5. Missing sidewalks tabled for now
5. Police data updates
6. New business:
7. Next Meeting: 1/13 at 10:30AM

RE: Suffolk County Proposed Speed Limits for#48
We were pleased to hear that Suffolk County Traffic Engineering has responded positively
to the Southold Town Board's request to lower the speed at the Halyard Restaurant and
Soundview Inn with its traffic calming islands and three crosswalks without stop controls.
We are also appreciative that the Town Board responded to us in making their
recommendation.
We have reviewed the County's Speed Limit proposals after an informative Zoom meeting
with the Director of Traffic Engineering Alexander Prago, P.E., PTOE. We support the
proposal to lower the speed limit to 40MPH from Leon Road to Chapel Road, especially
lowering the 50MPH at the Soundview location and officially recognizing the 40MPH speed
limit at Town Beach from seasonal to year-round.
While a wider study was conducted, the Commission would like to monitor and reconsider
the 45MPH speed limit from Chapel lane to Main Street and points east in light of the
pending Roundabout.
Thank you for your consideration
