Marie Madden Thomson, a remarkable woman, was a widow who lost her husband in 1918 due to the Spanish Flu. She raised three daughters, the eldest my paternal Grandmother, while holding down a job at the Bell Telephone Company as a Supervisor of phone operators. Her desire in building the Bungalow was to have a place where the family could gather and enjoy summers away from New York City. I, along with my two cousins who own the house in a joint tenancy (see below for current owner details) have spent time every summer of our lives at the Bungalow. In the 1960's, my Grandmother, Marie Thomson Dorman, took over ownership of the Bungalow. Together with my Grandfather, they continued the practice of keeping the Bungalow a family gathering place for their two children (my father, George Dorman and my aunt, Eileen Dorman Kimball) and nine grandchildren. Following the death of Marie Thomson Dorman in 2003, as part of her Estate settlement, the Bungalow ultimately passed to three of her grandchildren, Keith Dorman (son of George Dorman) and Kathy Kimball and Andrew Kimball (children of Eileen Dorman Kimball). To this day, the Bungalow remains essentially as built in'1932. Roofs, windows, and siding have been replaced, but the Bungalow remains essentially as it appeared when the original construction was completed. • Mr. Dorman, Ms. Kimball, and Mr. Kimball are undertaking to renovate the Bungalow. Among their families, there are six grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. Their renovation project is designed to make the house a year-round structure for use by family members, allow the structure to last for many years in the future, and most importantly honor the original desire of Marie Madden Thomson to be the gathering place for the family.
