Dear Southold Town Board Members and Supervisor Krupski:
I wanted to thank you for allowing us to express our concerns last night at the town board
meeting and for taking those concerns seriously. We are heartened by your commitment
to effective sound mitigation and look forward to hearing the plan as it unfolds.
In my hours of research on the subject I have found this company Pickleball Sound
Mitigation which works with USA Pickleball to make sure that courts are installed in
appropriate locations and that sound abatement when necessary is effective.

From my research I have also learned that although the acoustic fencing materials can be
effective in some instances, they are not infallible. There are communities in the news
who still have myriad complaints even after the special fencing material is installed. To
work as advertised it must be located and installed properly and then maintained. As I
g .lilfra  li .i ...... ::.... . .. ..sound' over these fences,
mentioned last night there is also the real threat o
rendering them less than perfect. A sound consultant should be able to take that into
consideration when forming a plan.
Our hope is that proper placement of courts along with mitigation as advised by a sound
consultant well versed in pickleball will be able to protect all the families who border the
park.
Thank you again and we hope to hear updates from you when available.
Sincerely,
Zinta Schnore

Mr. Brian Mealy
Town Board
Southold Town Hall
53095 Main Road
Southold, NY 11971
Dear Mr. Mealy,
My name is Zinta Schnore and I live at 10305 Main Road in East Marion, directly next
door to Old Schoolhouse Park. It has recently come to our attention that the town plans to
install three pickleball courts in the Old Schoolhouse Park, within 50 yards from our back
fence. I reached out to Supervisor Krupski a few weeks back and he relayed that this has
been an ongoing topic of conversation for years and that it has had widespread
community support. After speaking with our neighbors who live beside the property as
well, it seems none of us were aware of these plans. This is very concerning as the
community members living adjacent to the park and those to be the most affected.
Had we and our neighbors been made aware of the plan and any hearing we would have
stressed that we are all adamantly opposed to these pickleball courts. As you may be
aware, there have been many articles written about the growing number of community
complaints and lawsuits across Long Island and the country concerning the nuisance of
the associated noise from the ever-growing number of pickleball courts popping up in
residential areas. People complain that they are no longer able to use and enjoy their
outdoor spaces or even keep their windows open because the noise is so intrusive.
Locally, we have heard of complaints about the noise and traffic at the existing pickleball
courts at Tasker Park in Southold.

. 23),
We purchased our home in 2017 as a second home and have recently decided to make it
our primary residence. We have spent a lot of time and money on our home and making
our yard a pleasant place to spend time and are now very concerned that these pickleball
courts will make being in our backyard intolerable. As it already stands a crew came and
demolished the vegetation and trees that had been our natural privacy screen from the
2
parking lot and pre-existing tennis court. This was quite disappointing and will require that
we either try to add height to our existing stockade fence or purchase more plants that can
grow to recreate the privacy we had grown to appreciate. None of these solutions
however will do anything to mitigate the sound that would come from the planned
pickleball courts, which will be too close for comfort. We love our home, East Marion and
our neighbors but the loss of the use of our backyard would be devastating.
We have lived happily live next to the existing tennis and basketball courts, and we are not
opposed to renovations or upgrades to the park. We just hope for some consideration for
those living nearest. Would the money be better spent on upgrading the existing courts
and playground? The playground currently attracts families but would be a much better
draw if it were upgraded. We would welcome the sounds of children laughing, yelling and
playing over the sounds of the pickleball hitting the paddle over and over and over from
dawn to dusk. If the town is adamant on pickleball courts, please consider moving them to
the back of the property where there is plenty of room and vegetation to dampen the
sound. Sound mitigation must be considered in the very least.
We ask that the town board please postpone the current plan so that a solution
satisfactory to all might be had.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Zinta Schnore
