RE: 801 MAPLE LANE, SOUTHOLD
SCTM# 1000-64-1-30.2
Dear Mr. Morden:
This letter is a follow up to your email received on April 29, 2024, along with several
photographs. The Board of Trustees reviewed your request to remove five (5) trees that
are located on your property and is within 100' of the wetlands. These trees were
reviewed and seen by Trustee Liz Gillooly on May 1, 2024.
The Board of Trustees determined that the five (5)trees located near the wetlands may
be removed at this time. The Board of Trustees would like you to plant a one-to-one
replacement using a native hardwood tree with a minimum caliper of 3" anywhere on
your property to help mitigate the loss of these trees. No permit will be required in order
to perform this work.
Any other activity within 100' of the wetland boundary requires a permit from this office.
This is not a determination from any other agency.
If you have any questions, please call our office at (631) 765-1892.
Sincerely,
Liz Gillooly
Board of Trustees

Re: Request to Remove Hazardous Dead/Dying Trees from 801 Maple Lane, Southold
Dear Board of Trustees for the Town of Southold,
I, Benjamin Morden, residing more than a dozen years at 801 Maple Lane (aka Dobbs
Lane), Southold, NY 11971, am requesting expedited permission to remove five (5)
trees situated directly behind and adjacent to my house and located in designated
wetlands on my property. I have included photos of the specific trees that I request
permission from the Board of Trustees to remove.
Recently, I have had a few felled trees from storms on my property this past winter and
at the start of Spring season as well. Last week, I met with an arborist from the
Shamrock Tree Company to evaluate all the trees on my property. I was informed that
there are five trees directly behind my house that are either dead or dying and pose an
immediate hazard both to my home and, more importantly, to my family. That being
said, I respectfully ask for an expedited review of my tree removal request and hope
that an accelerated affirmative decision may be granted.
Please note, should the Board of Trustees provide such permission to remove these
hazardous trees, I will then be utilizing the tree service of the Shamrock Tree Company
to remove the trees as soon as possible given the safety concerns they pose. I can be
contacted by phone at 917-945-5236 for any inquiries regarding this request. Thank you
for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Morden
