SMITH, COUNCILWOMAN 23 24 25 MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 2 1 PUBLIC COMMENTS 2 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : That 3 concludes the agenda . Would anyone like 4 to address the Board on any issue? 5 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : Thanks again 6 for having me . You guys are amazing . 7 We ' re grateful and Councilman Mealy, we 8 also watch at home . So, it ' s not just 9 for ( inaudible ) . Oh, I ' m so sorry . You 10 don ' t know me? No, I ' m kidding . 11 Elizabeth Brittman, Southold . I just 12 wanted to come circle back around . I 13 was here in August with concerns about 14 the short term rental issues we ' re 15 having . Three of my neighbors are 16 people and do not comply with the two 17 week regulations that were voted in at 18 the end of August last year . Councilman 19 Doherty had suggested because I was 20 nervous , and I still am nervous about 21 being so public about it . You know, I 22 just don ' t want any backlash because I 23 don ' t know . But anyway, she said, you 24 know, you can do the reports 25 anonymously . So I started to do them MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 3 1 online anonymously . And now here I am 2 saying it publicly, but I ' ve been doing 3 it every week since , I think it was 4 August 29th of last summer . And there ' s 5 no change . You know, the seasonal dips , 6 of course, but it ' s almost every single 7 weekend . And again, I ' m not saying 8 anything that people are horrific . 9 We ' ve had a few horrific ones . We ' ve 10 had a wedding next door where they used 11 our railings as the backdrops for the 12 ceremony . You know, like over 30 cars . 13 And, you know, and it wasn ' t crazy loud 14 or anything . It ' s just, it ' s a public 15 event and now being held in our 16 neighborhood . But what I wanted to 17 mention was I ' ve gone to the zoning 18 meeting that we had back in March and 19 there was another resident from the 20 community that shared with me that 21 somebody she knew, their town uses a 22 technology and it ' s called Deckard 23 Technologies , where they, I guess use AI 24 or something where they gleaned and can 25 see actually reservations coming up and, MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 4 1 you know, this is the whole thing that 2 most of them list a two night minimum, 3 not a two week minimum . That kind of 4 the thing . And I just sort of, if even 5 if we could collect a few of these hefty 6 fines , and then invest in like such a 7 technology with now, I mean, it ' s a 8 thousand houses now this year that are 9 listed in our town . I think last year 10 we were at 480 or 680 . It was something 11 like that . I mean, it ' s just 12 exponential on -- I ' m just -- continue 13 to be concerned about it . I continue to 14 report . I don ' t know if it ' s reported 15 while reporting ' cause I don ' t know what 16 anybody would really do . You know, it 17 happens on the weekends usually . This 18 weekend, it was like a Thursday to 19 Sunday, but it ' s like a hotel . They 20 check out at 11 : 00 . But I mean, it ' s 21 gonna go and knock on the door and it ' s 22 not those people ' s fault . It ' s , you 23 know, it was responsibility . Saying 24 fault, but responsibility . It ' s the 25 homeowner . Just feel like we need to do MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 5 1 something . So I just wanted to mention 2 that name . I don ' t know if that name 3 had come forward . I ' m sure there ' s 4 other companies that do this kind of 5 thing for a fee . I know that it was 6 money . But again, I thought if we could 7 get some levy, some fines and use that 8 money to help us , because it ' s really 9 changing -- it ' s changing things 10 terribly . But you know, I know for me 11 it is . It ' s just terrible . It really 12 is , you know . 13 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : Thank 14 you . No, thank you . Thank you for that 15 information, coming here tonight . I ' ll 16 let you know -- 17 COUNCILMAN GREG DOROSKI : 18 ( Inaudible ) we hope to be reporting to 19 the Town Board . It ' s a recommendation 20 for update . 21 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : 22 ( Inaudible ) . 23 COUNCILMAN GREG DOROSKI : And I 24 think to your point of learning from the 25 ( inaudible ) and the task force in MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 6 1 community for making updates in our town 2 and that is very -- bringing it outside 3 the region . 4 PAUL DECHANCE : Ms . Brittman, is it 5 main Bayview that we ' re talking about? 6 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : Those homes 7 are Main Bayview . There ' s also one on 8 one -- They ' re like kind of, you know, 9 right around the end of West Creek . 10 PAUL DECHANCE : So I understand it 11 as a marathon at times . I would like 12 you, when we ' re doing that to contact me 13 later in the day . In each instance, 14 concerning your last three complaints 15 that we ' ve received, we have 16 successfully obtained sufficient 17 information to prosecute . And those are 18 three sets of instances that we ' re 19 talking about , putting together a hefty 20 fine to potentially acquire other 21 instruments to deal with these issues . 22 The third violation for this type of 23 activity is significant in terms of 24 fines . So we appreciate the fact that 25 you brought that to our attention in my MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 7 1 office . If you would, if you ' ll follow 2 up with phone calls , I ' d love to give 3 you the updates on those to let you know 4 that we are responding to them. We are 5 acting on them. We don ' t have the 6 ability to let you know because there ' s 7 no -- 8 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : I do . But I 9 appreciate that, yeah, as long as I ' m 10 not in pain in the neck, and my 11 husband ' s like, " stop it . Stop it . " 12 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : 13 ( Inaudible ) . 14 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : And I know 15 there are other people , you know, again, 16 you know, by way of saying -- yeah . So 17 thank you so much and thank you again 18 for everything you ' re doing . We 19 really -- the community appreciates you . 20 We do .
