1 PUBLIC COMMENTS
2 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : That
3 concludes the agenda . Would anyone like
4 to address the Board on any issue?
5 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : Thanks again
6 for having me . You guys are amazing .
7 We ' re grateful and Councilman Mealy, we
8 also watch at home . So, it ' s not just
9 for ( inaudible ) . Oh, I ' m so sorry . You
10 don ' t know me? No, I ' m kidding .
11 Elizabeth Brittman, Southold . I just
12 wanted to come circle back around . I
13 was here in August with concerns about
14 the short term rental issues we ' re
15 having . Three of my neighbors are
16 people and do not comply with the two
17 week regulations that were voted in at
18 the end of August last year . Councilman
19 Doherty had suggested because I was
20 nervous , and I still am nervous about
21 being so public about it . You know, I
22 just don ' t want any backlash because I
23 don ' t know . But anyway, she said, you
24 know, you can do the reports
25 anonymously . So I started to do them
MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 3
1 online anonymously . And now here I am
2 saying it publicly, but I ' ve been doing
3 it every week since , I think it was
4 August 29th of last summer . And there ' s
5 no change . You know, the seasonal dips ,
6 of course, but it ' s almost every single
7 weekend . And again, I ' m not saying
8 anything that people are horrific .
9 We ' ve had a few horrific ones . We ' ve
10 had a wedding next door where they used
11 our railings as the backdrops for the
12 ceremony . You know, like over 30 cars .
13 And, you know, and it wasn ' t crazy loud
14 or anything . It ' s just, it ' s a public
15 event and now being held in our
16 neighborhood . But what I wanted to
17 mention was I ' ve gone to the zoning
18 meeting that we had back in March and
19 there was another resident from the
20 community that shared with me that
21 somebody she knew, their town uses a
22 technology and it ' s called Deckard
23 Technologies , where they, I guess use AI
24 or something where they gleaned and can
25 see actually reservations coming up and,
MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 4
1 you know, this is the whole thing that
2 most of them list a two night minimum,
3 not a two week minimum . That kind of
4 the thing . And I just sort of, if even
5 if we could collect a few of these hefty
6 fines , and then invest in like such a
7 technology with now, I mean, it ' s a
8 thousand houses now this year that are
9 listed in our town . I think last year
10 we were at 480 or 680 . It was something
11 like that . I mean, it ' s just
12 exponential on -- I ' m just -- continue
13 to be concerned about it . I continue to
14 report . I don ' t know if it ' s reported
15 while reporting ' cause I don ' t know what
16 anybody would really do . You know, it
17 happens on the weekends usually . This
18 weekend, it was like a Thursday to
19 Sunday, but it ' s like a hotel . They
20 check out at 11 : 00 . But I mean, it ' s
21 gonna go and knock on the door and it ' s
22 not those people ' s fault . It ' s , you
23 know, it was responsibility . Saying
24 fault, but responsibility . It ' s the
25 homeowner . Just feel like we need to do
MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 5
1 something . So I just wanted to mention
2 that name . I don ' t know if that name
3 had come forward . I ' m sure there ' s
4 other companies that do this kind of
5 thing for a fee . I know that it was
6 money . But again, I thought if we could
7 get some levy, some fines and use that
8 money to help us , because it ' s really
9 changing -- it ' s changing things
10 terribly . But you know, I know for me
11 it is . It ' s just terrible . It really
12 is , you know .
13 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . : Thank
14 you . No, thank you . Thank you for that
15 information, coming here tonight . I ' ll
16 let you know --
17 COUNCILMAN GREG DOROSKI :
18 ( Inaudible ) we hope to be reporting to
19 the Town Board . It ' s a recommendation
20 for update .
21 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . :
22 ( Inaudible ) .
23 COUNCILMAN GREG DOROSKI : And I
24 think to your point of learning from the
25 ( inaudible ) and the task force in
MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 6
1 community for making updates in our town
2 and that is very -- bringing it outside
3 the region .
4 PAUL DECHANCE : Ms . Brittman, is it
5 main Bayview that we ' re talking about?
6 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : Those homes
7 are Main Bayview . There ' s also one on
8 one -- They ' re like kind of, you know,
9 right around the end of West Creek .
10 PAUL DECHANCE : So I understand it
11 as a marathon at times . I would like
12 you, when we ' re doing that to contact me
13 later in the day . In each instance,
14 concerning your last three complaints
15 that we ' ve received, we have
16 successfully obtained sufficient
17 information to prosecute . And those are
18 three sets of instances that we ' re
19 talking about , putting together a hefty
20 fine to potentially acquire other
21 instruments to deal with these issues .
22 The third violation for this type of
23 activity is significant in terms of
24 fines . So we appreciate the fact that
25 you brought that to our attention in my
MAY 21, 2024 REGULAR MEETING 7
1 office . If you would, if you ' ll follow
2 up with phone calls , I ' d love to give
3 you the updates on those to let you know
4 that we are responding to them. We are
5 acting on them. We don ' t have the
6 ability to let you know because there ' s
7 no --
8 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : I do . But I
9 appreciate that, yeah, as long as I ' m
10 not in pain in the neck, and my
11 husband ' s like, " stop it . Stop it . "
12 SUPERVISOR AL KRUPSKI JR . :
13 ( Inaudible ) .
14 ELIZABETH BRITTMAN : And I know
15 there are other people , you know, again,
16 you know, by way of saying -- yeah . So
17 thank you so much and thank you again
18 for everything you ' re doing . We
19 really -- the community appreciates you .
20 We do . We do .
21 JUSTICE LOUISA EVANS : Motion to
22 adjourn .
