O. Box 1179 Southold Town Clef* Southold, N.Y. 11971 Dear Mr. Krupski, Jr., The Peconic Amateur Radio Club, a dedicated group of enthusiasts, is eagerly looking forward to participating in two prestigious amateur radio events: National Lighthouse Day on Wednesday, August 7, and the International Lighthouse and Lightship weekend on Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18. These events hold immense cultural and historical significance, and we proudly anticipate being a part of them. The United States Lighthouse Society strongly supports National Lighthouse Day. It occurs on August 7 to commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of federal lighthouses and the commitment and service of the people who tended America's lighthouses. International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend is an annual international event created in 1998 to motivate amateur radio operators worldwide to operate at or near a lighthouse or lightship. Its purpose is to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, promote amateur radio, and foster international goodwill. It occurs on the third weekend in August and attracts amateur radio operators from 95 countries. The basic format of these events is that members of the Peconic Amateur Radio Club will set up at least one radio station in or near a lighthouse for the day or the weekend and operate from that station while there. The goal is to contact other amateur stations, particularly those operating from other lighthouse sites. The radio operators at this event encourage the visiting public to watch the operators and even use the equipment under supervision while visiting the lighthouse. Page 1 of 2 The Club will operate an amateur radio station at Horton Point Lighthouse for both events. In addition, the Club would like to activate Long Beach Bar Lighthouse (Bug Light) so more club members can participate in these two events commemorating Southold's historically significant lighthouses. To do so, the Club's members would like to have two amateur radio stations operating from two vehicles parked at the end of E. Gillette Drive in East Marion and another two stations operating from two cars parked at the southern end of Narrow River Road at Harbor Road Beach on Wednesday, August 7, and again on Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18. The radio operators can see Long Beach Bar Lighthouse (Bug Light) at both locations. To do this, the Club will need permits to park at these two locations — two permits for the end of E. Gillette Drive in East Marion and two permits for the end of Narrow River Road at Harbor Road Beach on Wednesday, August 7, and Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18. Can parking permits be issued to the Club for these two events? We deeply appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing our request. Your support in making these events a success is invaluable to us. Thank you in advance for your help. Sincerely, Richard S Tr ridge, P N2YIB President (917) 885-8667 Page 2of2
