We live at 9 Madison Street, Greenport and request consideration of signage and postings as the new
Roundabout is constructed. Currently, Madison Street is used as a by-pass by many to avoid the traffic
congestion at the intersection of Main Street and Route 48. We anticipate the use of Madison Street to
increase significantly when construction begins,causing back-up and lines of traffic on Madison Street as
drivers attempt to make a left hand turn onto Route 48. The site line at the intersection of Madison Street
and Route 48 is currently impeded in both directions by a utility poles and tall hedges, requiring drivers
to 'inch'out toward the travel lanes of Route 48 in order to better see oncoming traffic. in addition, the
increase in traffic on Madison Street will affect the ability of homeowners to enter and exit their
driveways. Madison Street is a 3 rod right-of-way with limited shoulders on both sides making two-way
traffic difficult at best,especially given that many homeowners park their vehicles on the road.
We request consideration of the following:
-A weight limit on Madison Street to avoid usage by large vehicles such as semi's,tour buses and motor
homes,and
-Not posting Madison Street as a 'Detour'if this is a consideration.
