HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-11/13/2003 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on November 13, 2003, at the Park District Office at 12900 Main Road,Mattituck,New York,with Commissioners Gerard Goehringer,Chairman,and Jerome Zuhoski present,together with John Cushman, Treasurer,Madeline Haas, Secretary, Gail Faiarcloth,Gate Guard Attendant,James Cox, Sr., Crew Chief Leader, and Gail Wickham,Attorney for the Park District. Commissioner Walter Sabat was absent. At 7:00 p.m., Chairman Goehringer swore in Gail Faircloth and Barbara Goehringer, as Tellers of Election, for the voting of a Commissioner for a three year . term due to Walter Sabat's term terminating December 31,2003. On motion of Jerome Zuhoski, seconded by Gerard Goehringer and carried the minutes of the September 11,2003 meeting were approved as presented. No meeting to be held in October. Nine 811.77 Total amount: $ 7,935.27 Chairman Goehringer reported on the new building. Warren Sambach,Architect, has finally gotten the Energy and Federal Guide Lines completed. The papers are ready to be written. Mr. Goehringer called Mr. Damon,the site plan reviewer in the State Building Department. (The site plan papers and building construction papers which have to meet the new State code adopted by New York State last January.) Mr. Sambach has informed Mr. Goehringer that he has spoken to the builder almost every day. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski and carried,Mr. Sambach and friend are to be taken out to dinner. Gerry Goehringer reported that the closing of the park at Veterans Park has worked out well. Gail Faircloth is seeing that it is being done. A letter has been received from the Mattituck Fire Department giving the Park District permission to use the fire house for our meetings commencing December 11, 2003 and each month thereafter until the new building at Veterans Park,Peconic Bay Boulevard,Mattituck, is completed. A snow plow was discussed. The Lodge building has to be plowed and kept clean because of the use the Lodge gets from Boy Scouts and other organizations. It was reported that a plow is being purchased at a cost not to exceed$4,000.00 and is to be put on the truck. It will be taken care of as soon as Jimmy gets notification the plow is ready. Commissioners are to have fill work done at Bailey Beach. Crushed concrete is to be used up above and stone blend down on the driveway. The drain at Baileys Beach has been filled in and the rain water problem seems much better.. A discussion about fencing around the construction side at Peconic Bay Boulevard for safety reasons was had. Fencing will be put up from the swings and go southerly. Gail Wickham brought up the issue of a change in the statute of the Mattituck Park District relative to letting at least one woman to act as a commissioner. Gerry Goehringer suggested the possibility of asking Senator LeValle to offer a resolution to grant the Commissioners of the Park District a stipend. Gerry Goehringer also brought up the possibility of getting permission to use the old tank property on Route 48 and also the use of the building for a work shop while the new construction is going on. It was reported that there is a major problem at Wolf Pit Lake. The willow tree was blown down in the storn and one-half of it is in the lake. Mr. Shipman cleaned up what was on the ground. Secretary to speak to Gail Wickham regarding the removal of the tree in the lake and cutting the tall growth around the lake. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski and carried,Kathy Ellis to be hired to close and open the gates at Veterans Park,Peconic Bay Boulevard, Mattituck. The pay was set at $7.50 per hour. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski and carried, Alexander Martin was terminated as a laborer of the Park District as of October 1,2003. On motion of Gerry Goehringer, seconded by Jerry Zuhoski and carried,the following Resolution modifying the 2003 budget is as follows: RESOLVED TO MOVE FROM: Beach Attendants $ 1,300.00 Site Improvements 10,000.00 Office Stationery 250.00 Electric 2,500.00 Equipment Repairs 2,000.00 Lifeguards 5,000.00 TO: Equipment $ 8,000.00 Supplies and Materials 7,500.00 Telephone 350.00 Site Maintenance 3,000.00 Postage 100.00 Permits 2,100.00 Jerry Zuhoski is to go to Miller and Environmentals to look at a sand sifter and get a price on same. Jim Cox reported the fence at Veterans Park is up and completed. Commissioners discussed preserving the building at Veterans' Park which has been used for the concession stand. With renovations it could be used by some of the organizations that have been using the Main Road property. No decision has been made. Signs regarding the right-of-way are to be done and put up by Jim Cox. Secretary to approach Gail Wickham as to what information is to be used for the signs. No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Jerry Zuhoski, seconded by Gerry Goehringer and carried,the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Madeline S. Haas, Secretary At 9:00 p.m. the polls were declared closed and the results of the Tellers counting the ballots were as follows: Number of voters registered 29 Number of ballots counted 29 Number ballots cast for TOM McCAFFERY for Commissioner 29 Number ballots void 29 Tom McCaffery declared obtaining the position of Commissioner of the Mattituck Park District for a term of three (3)years commencing January 1,2004.
