HomeMy WebLinkAboutMPD-04/15/2004 Minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on April 15,2004, at the Mattituck Fire House in a classroom on the second floor,Pike Street,Mattituck,New York, with Commissioner Jerome Zuhoski, Chairman, and Commissioners Gerard Goehringer and Tom McCaffery present together with John Cushman,Treasurer,Madeline Haas, Secretary, Gail Faircloth, Gate Guard Attendant. James Cox, Sr., Labor Crew Leader,Mike Ryan,North Fork Beach Volleyball League representative, and Frank Polistena, a representative of the North Side Out League. On motion of Jerome Zuhoski, seconded by Tom McCaffery and carried,the minutes of the March meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park Disrict were approved as presented. Mr. Ryan said that he was present regarding his permit for the volley ball league to use the Breakwater Site. Commissioner Goehringer reported that a discussion was had among the Commissioners to erect more volley ball courts and also the possibility of putting up two light stanchions at the Breakwater site,but probably not this year. Mr. Polistena said lights at Breakwater site would also deter vandalism. Mr. Ryan said North Fork Beach league used the site on Friday nights. Mr. Polistena said the North Fork Out league used it Monday nights. Mr. Ryan commented that Southold Town was not going to back the North Fork Beach league. Commissioner Goehringer told the two men to go to the town Board about the matter of them not working with the leagues. Mr. Ryan said that the biggest expense of the league was sand for the courts and that the Town furnished it and delivered it to the site. Mr. Ryan asked about fencing being put up to keep the balls from going into the reserved area adjacent to the courts (Piping Plovers). He also said when the balls go off the courts into that area, individuals have to walk in to get them and he doesn't want to have complaints from the environmental people. Letter was dictated to the secretary to be sent to Supervisor Horton and copies of same sent to the members of the Town Board to advise them of the situation regaring the vollege ball leagues and making them aware that the Town had built the facility on Park District property and also informing them that the Town had supplied the facility each year with the necessary materials to continue this very active sport on Breakwater Beach. The letter asked if the Park District could be notified by May 1St,2004, if the Town is still sanctioning the league and if it is not the Park Commissioners are still in need of the supplies and equipment for the facility which is used by all the residents of Southold Town. Mr. Ryan and Mr. Polistena then left the meeting. Country Time did not show up with the bikes. Vouchers were made out for the four recipients of the bikes. Treasurer Cushman said he has paid Country Time. Commissioners wish to advertise next week for 2 consecutive weeks for bids on building the 3-bay building at Aldrich Lane. Also the Concession would be bid for the 2004 summer season at the same time. Commissioners reported that the Yacht Club parking lot is on hold until next year. The Veterans Park will be done. Gatz has seeded and fertilized.the two ball fields. The soccer fields at Aldrich to be done next week., Jim Cox reported that the flags are in. He was told to get Shipman to put ropes on the poles and for the flags to be up by May 1St Chairman Zuhoski reported that he had someone ask him if there was going to be security at the new building site at Veterans' Park. He was told to have the person come to see the Board of Commissioners. Gail Faircloth reported that Bob Born was going down to the Yacht Club site about gates and he would get an estimate to the Commissioners for the gates Andy McGown wants keys to the portapotties at the Yacht Club for Little League. Kevin Romanowski delivered 3 cu. yds of crushed concrete @$12 per cu yd.to the Aldrich Lane site. Gail Faircloth reported she needs 2 more girls. She has Angela DiVello,Denise Goehringer,Despina Siolis, Stephanie Pesces and Lindsey Delarata. Barbara Droskoski is to be invited to the May meeting. No further business to come before the meeting, on motion of Jerome Zuhoski, seconded by Tom McCaffery and carried,the meeting was adjourned. Respec ully submitted Madeline .
