COUNCILMAN WICKHAM: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to the provisions of
Chapter 59 (Open Space Preservation) and Chapter 6 (2% Community Preservation Fund) of the Town
Code, the To~rn Board of the Town of Southold hereby sets Tuesday, August 12~ 2003, at 8:10 p.m,
Southold Town ttall~ 53095 Main Road, Southold~ New York as the time and place for a public
hearing for the purchase of the properties owned by John Q. Adams, Trustee of the John O.
Adams Revocable Trust Agreement. Said properties are identified as SCTM #1000-56q-8.1 and
SCTM#1000-56-1-10_ The properties are located on the north side of the LIRR property and are
adjacent to the r-o-w knoxsrn as Mill Path in Somhold. SCTM# 1000-56-1-8.1 is approximately 24_5
acres and SCTM# 1000-56-1-10 is approximately 3.4 acres. The proposed acquisition totals
approximately 27.9 acres (subject to survey)_
The purchase pr/ce is $347,000 (three hundred forty-seven thousand dollars)_ The exact area of the
purchase ts subject to smw'ey.
The property is listed on the Town's Community Preserv'ation Project Plan as property that should be
preserved Ibr open space and wetland protection purposes. The purpose of the purchase is tbr open
space, wedand protection and recreational (trail) purposes_ Proposed use of rise property shall be in
conjunction with the existing presetw'ed land in the vicinity, which may include the establishment of a
nature preserve and passive recreational area with trails.
FURTHER NOTICE is hereby ~ven that a more detailed description of the above mentioned parcel of
land is on file hs Land Preservation Department, Southold Town Hall, Feather Hill Annex, Southold,
New York, and may be examined by any interested person during business hours_

MELISSA SPIRO, LAND PRESERVATION COORDINATOR: Thank you. I would like to quickly
point out a few things about this project. The Adams property is located within the R-80 Zoning
District. It is on the Community Preservation Plan, and the purchase will be funded by the Community
Preservation Fund. The most important point I believe, is that this property is adjacent to the existing
Town owned 24 acre Arshamomaque Pond Preserve. The Town is currently working on a trail system
within the Preserve. The trailhead is located on Main Road, just west of the small bridge_ The Town
has installed a small parkSng area and a covered kiosk with a map of the preserve showing the natural
features and the trail location. The trail loops around the property with m ~agnificent views of
Arshamomaque Pon& The current proposed acquisition is for approximately 26 acres, thus the
Preserve area will be doubled_ The Adams property contains uplands and wetlands, and the proposed
purchase will allow the Town to significantly extend the existing Ixail system. Jim McMahon, the
Town's Stewardship Manager, has completed a management plan for the existing Preserve. The
existing Preserve, together with the additional land of the Adams property, will remain m its open,
natural and scenic state and will be reserved for nature trails. I'd like to thank John Sepenoski, a
member of the Land Preservation Committee, for spending significant volunteer hours cleaning up the
existing Preserve_ He also prepared a bird hst for the Preserve. The list is 'available at the Town Clerk's
office and on the Town's web site. Of course I'd like to thank the landowners for offering to sell their
property to the Town for open space purposes. The purchase price of $347,00 is supported by an
appraisal, and the Land Preservation Committee is fix support of this .purchase. Both the Committee and
I recommend that the Town Board proceed with this acquisition.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE IS I-II~REBY GIVEN that pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 59 (Open
Space Preservation) and Chapter 6 (2% Community Preservation Fund) of the Town
Code, the Town Board of the To~qa of Southold hereby sets Tuesday, August 12, 2003,
at 8:10 p.m., Southold Town Hall, 53095 Main Road, Southold, New York as the
time and place for a public hearing for the purchase of the properties.mwned by
John Q. Adams, Trustee of the John Q. Adams Revocable Trust Agreement. Said
properties are identified as SCTM #1000-56-1-8_1 and SCTM~1000-56-1-10. The
properties are located on the north side of the LIRR property and are adjacent to the r-o-w
knoxxm as Mill Path in Southold. SCTM# 1000-56-1-8.1 is approximately 24.5 acres and
SCTM# 1000-56-1-10 is alqproximately 3.4 acres. The proposed acquisition totals
approximately 27.9 acres (~t~bject to survey).
The purchase price is $347,000 (three hundred forty-seven thousand dollars). The exact
area of the purchase is subject to survey.
The property is hsted on the Toxxaf s Community Preservation Project Plan as property
that should be preserved for open space and wetland protection purposes. The propose of
the purchase is for open space, wetland protection and recreational (trail) purposes.
Proposed use of the property shall be in conjunction with the existing preserved land in
the vici~fity, which may include the establishment of a nature preserve and passive
recreational area with trails.
FURTtt]ER NOTICE is hereby given that a more detailed description of the above
mentioned parcel of land is on file in Land Preservation Department, Southold Town
Hall, Feather Hill Annex, Southold, New York, and may be exantined by any interested
