To; SuRervisor Harris and Southcld Town Board me/nbers:
Recently a young man gave me the log of Captain William
Sinclair and the Captain's naturalization papers dated 1825.
.Sinclair was the first keeper of the Hortcn Point Lighthouse
and his 10g gives de~ails of the building of the lighthouse and
of its maintenance.
I have no place suitable to display these significant
artifacts and, in any event, believe the most appropriate place
for them is on display at the nautical museum at Horton Point,
Southold. Clifford Ben~ietd, who has done. so much work on the
museum, assures me that the alarm systems and anti-theft devices
the Southold Historical Society has had installed are more than
adequate to protect Captain Sinclair's log and natu~alizc%ticn
papers.
In order that these items, so important to Southold's
nautical history, be available to the widest audience., I am
asking Supervisor Harris and members of the Southold Town Board
to lend these them on a long-term basis to the Southold
Historical Society for d~splay at the nautical museum at Horton
Point.
