TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2002 AT 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: Ray Blum, Ray Huntington, John Sepenoski, Fred Lee, Reed
Jarvis, Bill Edwards, Eric Keil, Melissa Spiro, Tom Wickham and Tim Caufield.
Reed Jarvis spoke to the Committee about the County meeting last Tuesday, July
30, 2002. He discussed some of the parcels in Southold Town.
Ray Huntington spoke to the Committee about open space parcels. He explained
what the Dedicated Neighborhood Trust would be. If these are created,
neighborhoods could purchase small parcels with the help of the Town. It was
suggested that Ray speak to the Peconic Land Trust, as this is their level of
expertise. Also, he could speak to the Nature Conservancy.
Ray Huntington also discussed the Dam Pond Management checklist with the
Committee. The Committee then reviewed the form and gave Ray their
suggestions. Tim Caufield spoke to the Committee, as the Peconic Land Trust is
working on the management plan.
Aliano - 74-4-4.1 -the closing is scheduled for August 21, 2002. It will be at the
Peconic Land Trust's office in Southampton. A motion was made by Ray Blum
and seconded by Fred Lee to ask the Planning Board for two curb cuts, one for
Grace's Place and one at the western end of the property. All were in favor.
Motion passed. A motion was made by Bill Edwards and seconded by Eric Keil
to recommend to the Town Board that the 50 ft. buffer be eliminated. All were in
favor. Motion passed.
Tim discussed the parcel at the end of Henry's Lane. The prospective buyer was
unable to come up with the money. Tim will be meeting with the Kettenbergs
again. Tim is meeting with Gary Taylor on Friday on the Simon parcel. Tim said
there is some movement on the Elak parcel. Also, the Sawicki property on Old
North Road is in contract with the County.
Adamowicz - 121-5-4.1 - contract done by County - some changes made.
Eric Keil will check with Roger Schmitt (95-3-8.1) about what is happening on
his parcels.
At 9:15 the Committee went into executive session to discuss new applications.
Chris Baiz - 56-5-1.3 - Main Road, Southold. A motion was made by Eric Keil
and seconded by Ray Huntington to have Pat Given do an appraisal on this parcel
All were in favor. Motion was passed.
Peter Carroll - 100-4-8 - 30 acres are being offered. It is located on Oregon
Road between Alvah & Elijah's Lanes. A motion was made by Eric Keil and
seconded by Reed Jarvis to have an appraisal done on this. All were in favor.
Motion passed.
Keith Scott Morton - 25-4-11.6 - (formerly Van Nostrand) He met with Tom
Wickham after Charles Cuddy, his attorney, met with the Committee at their last
meeting. Tom told him to contact the Chairman of the Land Preservation
Committee, Ray Blum. To date, Ray has never heard from him.
Ospreys Dominion - 86-1-3.3 - a motion was made by Reed Jarvis and seconded
by Ray Huntington to make an offer to the owner. All were in favor. Motion was
passed. Ray Blum will speak to the owner.
Tom Wickham spoke to the Committee about his meeting with the NYS
Environmental Facilities Corp. This funding was originally a Federal source
whose sole purpose is preservation of water sources. Southold has used monies
from it to pay for part of capping the landfill.
The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled from Tuesday, August 20, 2002
at 7:30 p.m.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
