TUESDAY, MAY 28, 2002 AT 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Ray Blum, Ray Huntington, Reed Jarvis, Fred Lee, Bill
Edwards, Marty Sidor, Melissa Spiro, Tom Wickham, Tim Caufield, Nancy Lucas and
Kerri Cullen.
Melissa told the Committee that there was a farm for sale on c.R. 48. Reed will contact
the owner, Wesnofske.
Nancy Lucas of the Nature Conservancy introduced Keri Cullen to the Committee. She
will be taking over for Nancy. Nancy reviewed the Pipes Cove parcels. The Committee
will get copies of the appraisals for the next meeting.
Posillico - there are 3 parcels - 53-1-7 is 1.7 acres - this is landlocked and wet. 53-3-
15.1 is 4 acres and is a beach parcel. 53-4-44.1 is approximately 7.7 acres on Kerwin
Blvd. Steve Schuster did the appraisal on these. Nancy is working on a spread sheet for
all of the properties in Pipes Cove.
Tim Caufield spoke to the Committee about the Aliano property 74-4-4.1 - a public
hearing was held and a resolution was passed by the Town Board to purchase this
property.
Simon - 86-1-10.9 - Tim said that John Simon is getting calls from interested parties.
Tom Wickham suggested getting an updated appraisal on this. Melissa will get an
appraisal on the entire piece from Gary Taylor.
Lettieri - 31-5-1.2 -the closing is scheduled for Thursday, May BOth in Hauppauge. The
County is buying everything except the beach parcels.
Ospre¥'s Dominion - 86-1-3.3 - Melissa revised the appraisal with the Committee.
Dick suggested referring this parcel to the County. Everyone agreed. Melissa will
forward the application and appraisal to the County.
Melissa discussed a new application received from Robert Samolewski 101-1-19.1 -
It is located on Alvah's Lane offofC.R. 48. This was part of a prior subdivision. It is
approximately 11.8 acres. Ray Blum suggested going back to him and ask him to reserve
only one lot with the existing farm house instead of three one acre building lots.
Melissa discussed another application which was received from Robert Webber 19-1-
11.3. It is located on the Main Road in Orient. There are approximately 6 acres
involved. It was suggested that an appraisal be gotten. Melissa will contact Andy Stype
to do the appraisal.
Dick suggested sending a letter to Fred Terry to see if he is interested in selling the
development rights on his farm.
Adamowicz - 121-5-4.1 -this would be an open space purchase of approximately 71
acres. It would be a partnership with the County. Melissa will discuss this with the
Town Board at their next work session.
Cullinane- 19-1-1.2 -closed on 5/22/02.
Ray Huntington said he spoke with Helen and Henry Rutkoski, they are still interested.
The next meeting of the Land Preservation Committee is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1,
2002 at 7:30 p.m.
With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 10:25 p.m.
