TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2002 AT 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Ray Blum, Ray Huntington, Reed Jarvis, Fred Lee, Marty Sidor,
Melissa Spiro, Councilman Wickham and Tim Caufield.
Ackermann Property - 101-2-4 & 108-3-7 -Dick and Melissa met with Terry
Ackermann to discuss the application. A motion was made by Ray Blum and seconded by
Dick Ryan to have an appraisal done. All were in favor.
Osprey Dominion Vineyards - 86-1-2.2 -they sent in an application. This is the
reserved area from the prior purchase by the County. A motion was made by Reed Jarvis
and seconded by Ray Huntington to have an appraisal done. All were in favor.
Flower Hill Property (Uhl) 69-3-10.1 - A potential buyer is interested in selling the
development rights to the Town. They have spoken with the Peconic Land Trust. Tim has
discussed conservation easement and limited development with them. Melissa will invite
them to the next meeting.
Dorman Parcel - 17-2-17 - He wants to gift it to the Town. The Committee will do a
field inspection.
Melissa discussed a parcel on Marion Lake (31-7-7). It would be an open space purchase.
It is zoned R40 - about 6 acres. Melissa will go back to the broker for more information.
The Committee will inspect this on their field trip.
STATUS REPORT:
Cullinane - 19-1-1.2 - Contract has been signed - public hearing set for 4/9/02.
Lettieri - 31-5-1.2 - Tim Caufield said that the County is looking at the title report.
Awaiting County's drafting of contract.
LaColla - 56-4-19, 24 - Still waiting on this.
Dubner/Vander Bosch - 84-1-8, 84-4-6.1 & 7.1 - They are exploring the idea of an
Country Inn. Owners are working with the Peconic Land Trust.
Schreiber - 95-1-4 - Owner wants to proceed with PDR prior to subdivision approval.
Last week Tim and Melissa went into the City and met with the Pfeils on the L & R piece.
They are looking to preseve it. There is a potential for private conservation.
Aliano parcels on Route 48 near gas station in Peconic. These lots are 2 acres. There
would be approximately 12 acres in all. A motion was made by Reed Jarvis and seconded
by Ray Huntington to have an appraisal done on these parcels. All were in favor.
Peconic Land Trust Outreach - Greenland Farms - he is considering selling the
development rights and reserve two lots. There are approximately 12 acres involved.
Melissa will send them an application.
Robert MacFarlane - 136-2-6, 7 & 8 - Stillwater Avenue petition - Ray Huntington gave
his ideas on these parcels. Tom Wickham spoke to the Committee regarding Ray
Huntington's idea for the Land Preservation Committee to communicate with the other
boards in the Town. Dick felt we should go to the Town Board with the idea and ask for
their approval. Tom said that the Town Board really would like the LPC to continue with
their outreach and that open space parcels should be treated as seriously as farmland.
Zazecki - (Custer) - Fred Lee met with Bob Van Bourgondien, Jim Baglivi, the science
teacher, and three students from Southold High School. They discussed the possibility of
involving Mattituck and Greenport High Schools in the project. Fred also spoke to Mr.
Cardona of Custer regarding the high school project. It could be a shared project with the
students and Custer Institute. Custer would like to use the property for astronomy viewing
and in turn share their water for the high school project.
On Thursday, April 4, 2002 the Nature Conservancy is having a meeting on the Peconic
Estuary Preservation Program at 10:30 a.m. at Town Hall.
The Minutes of the March 12, 2002 meeting were accepted as read.
The next meeting of the Land Preservation Committee is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16,
2002 at 7:30 p.m.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
