TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2001
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Ray Blum, Ray Huntington, Reed Jarvis, Bill Edwards and
Melissa Spiro.
The Minutes of the 9/18/01 meeting were accepted as read.
Melissa discussed the following with the Committee:
Lettieri - 31-5-1.2 - Awaiting notification that contracts have been signed by the Peconic
Land Trust. Tim Caufield will get the appraisal to both the Town and the County.
Damianos - 59-3-28.4 - Town Board reviewed gift offer of 20 acres. Town Board set
hearing for 10/9/01. Melissa will be coordinating.

the public hearing.
Elak - 115-8-3.1 - It is being reviewed by the County. Melissa will schedule a meeting
with the Elaks.
The Committee discussed the interviews for the vacancy on the Committee. Melissa will
bring the Committee's recommendation of Martin Sidor to the Town Board.
Chris Bais discussed with Melissa the Town's property adjacent to Custer Institute. He
said he would clean it up for the cost of fuel after October 15th.
Harbor Lights Homeowners' Association - 79-4-61 - This is a referral from the Nature
Conservancy. Not sure if the homeowners' association will donate to Town. It is a wet
area.
On Friday, October 5th there is a site visit by the Nature Conservancy of the Pipes Cove
area. This is for a possible grant from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
Melissa was contacted by an Olive Evans re: property at the corner of Wells Avenue and
Main Road in Southold. She would like to see this pacel preserved.
Outreach
Melissa showed the Committee a list of ag parcels without ag exemptions. It was
suggested that John Sepenoski map the list, as it would be easier to see if it were put on a
map. The Committee will then analyze the list.
It was also suggested that every time the Town purchased a parcel for preservation, that a
press release be done.
The next meeting of the Land Preservation Committee is scheduled for October 16, 2001.
With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce M. Wilkins
