TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2002 AT 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: Ray Blum, Ray Huntington, Eric Keil, John Sepenoski, Fred Lee,
Reed Jarvis, Bill Edwards, Melissa Spiro, Tom Wickham, Tim Caufield, Roger,
Joe and Tony $chmitt.
Ray Blum introduced the Schmitts to the Committee. (95-3-8.1) We received
their application and at our last meeting Randy Parsons, who represents the
Schmitts, brought in plans for the Committee to review. Ray told the Schmitts
that the Committee felt that there were too many lots on those plans. Roger
Schmitt said that they have another parcel (95-4-1) which is across from the larger
parcel It is approximately 12 acres. Members of the Committee gave the
Schmitts ideas of where to place lots on the larger parcel. The Schmitts thanked
the Committee for their ideas and would like to think about it.
Tim Caufield told the Committee that there is a little activity on Fishers Island
insofar as a private easement gift to the Trust of the Town.
Ray Huntington said that Mary Holland is still doing some more research on her
waterfront lot in Cutchogue.
Pietrewicz - 96-2-10 - approximately 26 acres - This is a farm on Cox Lane in
Cutchogue. She has been in contact with the Peconic Land Trust and might be
interested in selling the development rights to the Town. She has another parcel
which is 6 acres.
Simon - 86-1-10.9 - It is still a no go. A motion was made by Ray Huntington
and seconded by Fred Lee to authorize the Peconic Land Trust to consider a plan
of a reserved area on the northwest corner and to have two lots on the southern
end as compact as possible and to make scale sketches to illustrate. All were in
favor.
Fred Lee said he had an inquiry from a teacher at Southold School. He would like
to get approval for a scale model of the solar system to be place on the parcel
adjacent to Custer Institute (Zazecki). The committee suggested that he keep it
contained on one site and not several throughout the Town.
Melissa said that Swiatocha (83-2-9.1) is in contract with Manzi Homes. Melissa
met with Mr. Manzi and Dave Saland, the broker. It is a new application. The
parcel is approximately 16-18 acres, A motion was made by Ray Blum and
seconded by John Sepenoski to have an appraisal done on this property. All were
in favor.
Dowd - 56-1-5.1 - Given will do the appraisal on this parcel.
Rutkoski - 108-1-2 & 115-2-10 - He has accepted the offer. The Committee told
Melissa to set the public hearing with the Town Board.
Dickerson - 88-1-10 - Betsy Dickerson turned down the offer made. She is
looking for more money. John Sepenoski suggested telling her that the
development rights on other farms are being sold for $20,000 per acre and stand
by our offer. Ray Blum will contact her.
Shut - 94-3-1.6 - Melissa will be in contact with Randy Shur.
Webber - 19-1-11.3 - He has accepted our offer. Melissa will follow through on
this.
Dorman - 17-2-17 - The Committee is not interested in this parcel. There is no
value to the public in accepting this gift.
Posillico - They have accepted the offer for the beach and triagle parcel. Melissa
will have the Town Attorney send a contract.
Tom Wickham spoke to the Committee about additional support in Melissa's
office. Melissa asked for three additional people in her department, an assistant
land preservation coordinator, an executive assistant, a management steward, and
a senior environmental planner. Ray Blum suggested writing a letter to the
Supervisor stating that Melissa needs someone now. Melissa felt that a senior
environmental planner and a management steward would be most essential.
Tom Wickham said that Ray Blum gave a very nice presentation at the last Town
Board meeting. Tome said the Town Board acknowledges the fine work of the
Committee.
With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 10:15
p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce M. Wilkins
