TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2002 ~ 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Ray Blum, Martin Sidor, Bill Edwards, Reed Jarvis, Ray
Huntington, Fred Lee, Meliss Spiro and Tom Wickham.
Melissa told the Committee that she had three inquiries: One was Paul Matthews. He
wants to sell the development rights on 10 acres with full development on the rest of the
parcel. Melissa will contact him to see if he is interested in putting in an application and
to tell him that the Committee would be interested in purchasing the development rights
on more than 10 acres.
An inquiry was received from Larry Dohrman in Orient. He would like to donate .07 ac
to the Town. It is underwater land on Munn Lake. Melissa will check this out.
The third inquiry was from the Harbor Lights Homeowners Assoc. They would like to
donate park and playground land to the Town. If the Town wants to take it over, it would
have to be voted on by the homeowners' association.
Rutkoski - 115-2-10 - The Committee was given a copy of the appraisal tonight. The
Committee reviewed the appraisal. A motion was made by Dick Ryan and seconded by
Ray Huntington to have Ray Huntington contact Mr. Rutkoski and make an offer on the
property either at Melissa's office or wherever Mr. Rutkoski would like to meet.
Cullinane - 19-1-1.2 - The Committee asked Melissa to have Pat Given do a subdivision
analysis on this property.
Dowd - 56-1-5.1 - Melissa will contact Ron Matusa to do the appraisal on this property.
Aurichio - 56-4-16- the closing is scheduled for 1/16/02.
LaColla- 56-4-19 & 24 -this is an open space parcel. The heirs sent in an application to
the Committee. The appraisal should be ready next week. A contract should be prepared
subject to Town Board approval.
Damianos - 59-3-28.4 - This closed on 12/28/01. This is a gift to the Town.
Dubner/VanderBosch - 84-1-8 & 84-4-6.1 & 84-4-7.1 - Owners discussing plan with the
Peconic Land Trust.
Schreiber - 95-1-4 - Executed contract received. Town Board hearing scheduled for
1/15/02. The Peconic Land Trust is acting as agent for Bob Schreiber.
Ag & Markets Grant - they don't know if there will be any funding.
On Thursday, January 10 and Friday, January 11, 2002 an Ag Forum will be run by
Cornell Cooperative Extension. Melissa will attend.
Melissa will be meeting with the Nature Conservancy on Friday, January 11, 2002.
Outreach - The Committee took 15 minutes to discuss different properties that would be
of interest. Melissa will send out letters to a few of the owners that were suggested by
the Committee.
Councilman Wickham spoke to the Committee on the proposal to launch a Blue Ribbon
Panel on preserving a rural Southold. Tom Wickham would chair the panel which would
be made up of a Town Board member, a Land Preservation Committee member, Melissa
Spiro, someone from the Planning Board, the Peconic Land Trust, a traditional farmer, a
vineyard farmer, a greenhouse farmer, someone from the Farm Bureau, an environmental
person, a business person and an attorney.
The next meeting of the Land Preservation Committee will be hald on Tuesday, January
22, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
