Statement of the effect, if any, on the wetlands and tidal waters of the town that may result by reason of such proposed operations (use attachments if appropriate): The project seeks replacement of an existing functional timber bulkhead with a new vinyl bulkhead in the same location to maintain the property's historical method of protection against erosion and flooding. The site has been improved with, stabilized, and protected from flooding and erosion by a bulkhead since 1980,at which time it was constructed pursuant to Board of Trustees Permit No. 1431;and there is no viable non-structural alternative means of maintaining and protecting the upland portion of the property in its current location. Without replacement and maintenance of the bulkhead, both the subject and adjacent bulkheaded properties would be exposed to severe erosion, flooding, and potential damage to the residential structures located thereon. The project will provide the ecological benefits associated with replacing a treated timber bulkhead with untreated vinyl sheathing and maintaining an existing 10-foot wide non-turf buffer established in 2003 pursuant to Board of Trustees Permit No. 5626;and will otherwise maintain the historically existing conditions along the bulkheaded shoreline without any change to or significant adverse impact on the adjacent tidal wetlands or surface waters of Mattituck Creek. t t 617.20 Appendix B Short Environmental Assessment Form Instructions for Comnletine Part I-Project Information. The applicant or project sponsor is responsible for the completion of Part 1.Responses become part of the application for approval or funding, are subject to public review, and may be subject to further verification.
