The annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was held
on Tuesday, Aug. 15,. t961. The meetin,.g was held~%in the auditorium of
thee Fishers Island High School and was called to order by Supervisor
Lester M. Albertson at~ 1:30 P.M, with the following present: SuperviSor
Albertson; Councilmen ~Demarest and Grathwohl; Justice Tuthill, clark
and Edwards; Supt. of Highway Price; Town Attorney Tasker and, Town Clerk
Richmond; officials of the Sta~te, County, Town and ~uests and residents
of Fishers Island.
Moved. ~ Justice Edwards; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
RES~ ,'That the reading ,of the minutes of the previous meeting be
dispensed with.
Vote~!~Of~!Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and
GrathWohl; Justices Tuthill, Clark and Edwards.
SUPer%isor Albertson inquired if there were any problems the Fishers
Is~d, people would like to discuss. The question of boats and bathers
and state using the beach leased by the Civic Assoc-

"PRIVATE BEACH" could be put up.
The question of how soon or whether or not there ever would be a bridge
connecting Long Island and Connecticut and whether or not Fishers
Island would be used as a ste~ping stone, was brought up for discussion.
Mr. Dennison informed them that the bridge could be directly across
the sound. When asked how soon such a bridge might be built, Mr. Dennison
remarke~,~ "Maybe in our lifetime"
The question of d~edging of West Harbor was discussed. Mr. Albertson
informed them that the Federal Government had been contacted in regard
to this matter.
There was a question as to whether Fishers Island Airport was included
in the County Project. Mr. Dennison informed them it was considered in
the CoUnty Pro3ect.
The H~hw~y Department was requested to paint more yellow lines in the
cen=~er of the rb~ds on Fishers Island as the roads have many curves.

Albertson informed them that many of the roads on Fishers
be taken over by the Town by use.
A report from the Civil Defense Commission stating that if Fallout
Shelters were built the shelters could h~t be assessed for taxes.
Mrs. Gada said there were gun implacements on the Island which
could made into Fallout Shelters. Senator Barry said poesibly Federal
Aid wo~ld be available for this purpose.
