I received this from Jack Sherwood today. Jack says that the portion
highlighted in yellow was discontinued as a town highway and deeded
back to the property owner Russell G. DIOench. Mr. DtOench has
since sold the property, however, his attorney failed to include this
portion of the road in the conveyance. So, it is still owned by him.
The remainder of the road is a town highway.

TO THE SUPERINTENDENT OF HIGHWAYS OF ~'~,: TOWN OF SOUTHOLD, IN THE
COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, STATE OF NEW YORK:
The undersigned, a person liable to be assessed
for highway taxes in the Town of Southold, hereby applies to you to
discontinue a portion of the Town highway at Fishers Island, in the
Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, known as"STERLING STREET,
and described as follows:
ALL that certain tract or parcel of land known as
a portion of Sterling Street, located at Fishers
Island, in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New
York, being bounded and described as follows:
BEGINNING at a dr&ll hole in a boulder on the wester-
ly line of Sterling Street, said point being 1, 571.10
feet north of a point which is 173.75 feet west of a
monument marking the United States Coast and Geodetic
Survey Triangulation Station "Pros" and thence running
south 84 degrees 58 minutes 20 seconds East 14.49 feet;
thence north 6 degrees 21 minutes 50 seconds East 71.19
feet to a monument; thence north 31 degrees 38 minutes
30 seconds East 99.25 feet to the west face of a rock
at the shore of West Harbor; thence northwesterly along
said shore line about 15 feet to the east face of a
rock; ~thence south 32 degrees 12 minutes 15 seconds
West 95.78 feet to a drill hole; thence south 5 degrees
01 minutes 40 seconds West 67.32 feet to a monument;
thence south 5 degrees 15 minutes 40 seconds West
11.89 feet to the point of beginning. Containing 0.06
acres more or less.
Hereunto annexed and made a part hereof is a
certain map entitled "Plan of a Portion of Sterling Street at Fisherl
Island, New York, to be Abandoned by the Town of Southold" prepared
by Chandler and Palmer, Engineers, Norwich, Conn., and dated Janu~y
28, 1963, which said map shows the highway re~ueste~ to be discont-
inued by this application.

Upon reading and filing the Application of RUSS
G. D'OENCH, dated and acknowledged the 20th day of June, 1963, and
the release of the said Russell G. D'Oench, dated and acknowledged
the 20th day of June, 1963, the releases of Helen M. Roberts and
Katherine Hurlburt Hale, both dated and acknowledged the 21st day
of June, 1963, and the release of Charlotte Hubbard, dated and ac-
knowledged the 25th day of June, 1963, which said Application re-
quests the discontinuance of a portion of a Town highway of the ToWn

Section 171 of the Highways Law of the State of New york.
