Call to order 6:30pm Present: Councilperson Greg Doroski, Arnold Blair, John Rasweiler, John Wittenburg, John Haas, John Hansen, Craig Jobes and Nancy Foote Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Craig Jobes at 6:30 PM Motion made by Blair to accept previous minutes, second by Rasweiler. Review of 2022—2023 season. Craig reported 28 deer harvested on nuisance. Season total 233. Sharp decline from previous years. Some folks requesting a donated deer were unable to obtain one due to lower numbers. Blair reported Nassau Point program totals are down as well. This year 16 count compared to previous year of 25. Deer Facility New facility is nearly complete. Heat is on,two chest freezers are in place. Outside cooler will be move to the Peconic Community Center next to new facility. Craig will speak with Dan Goodwin to assist with the move. Grant paperwork has been completed to date and will be sent to Accounting to process for reimbursement. Pilot Program Greg spoke on the pilot program. Assemblyman Thiele will be at the Southold Town Board meeting to give a better idea of what is going on. With a petition in place, to support moving forward with the program but we are running out of time. End of legislative session is June. Greg will ask the Town Board for a letter of support for the program. He will also ask the Deer Management Task Force committee to send a letter to Thiele. Turkey Season Spring turkey season will run May 1 —May 31. Packets are in the process of being distributed. There will be no hunting on co-owned properties. Suffolk County declined. NYS is on board and Town of Southold. Private property can be hunted as well. Only one bird can be harvested,perhaps two will be considered next year. The turkeys have been busy eating the deer bait that was put out for nuisance season. There will be no donation with this program. Hunters must report harvest. Hunting is permitted morning until noon only according to statewide law/rules. Program is not yet a management task. Only male turkeys can be harvested spring hunting season. New Business Craig reported currently EHD is present but not prevalent. Ticks are out in full force.
