Dear Mr. Fmsh;
I have been requested by Dale Booher of Bates & Booher, to
investigate the effects of removmng several collar tmes withmn
the llvmng room of the home as referenced. The purpose oX this
report ms to analyze the removal of these ties.
The lmvlng room roof system, as bumlt, has utmlmzed a total
of fmve collar tmes mn a total extermor wall length of twenty
emght foot. Attachment ~1 details a typical tie, the layout of
ties is detailed in Attachment #2.
The rafter system of this particular room is held together by
several structural systems. The end sectmons of the room are
held rigidly, one by intersecting a main portmon of the building,
the other by an ~ntersecting wall and masonry chimney system.
The exterior walls are approxmmately 9.5 foot in height, made up
of 2x6 @ 16" o.c. stud constructmon. Double studs at the top of
this wall will transfer the lateral loads to the ties or end wall
sections.
It is the opinion of this office that a system of two collar
ties will be sufficient to provmde the rigidity necessary for the
roof system. Attachment %2 & %3 show the location of the two
tmes to remain. The three tmes noted as bemng redundant may be
removed without sacrmXicing the integrmty of the structure.
