My recommendations to them are as follows: Install R-15 Hi-density batt insulation at the three new walls (including the Garage wall), which will give the R-total of R-17.7; Replace the two old windows with new energy efficient windows. These windows should have egress capability, one sash for each room; Build up the floor 4" and include R-15 batt insulation, which presently has R - 5.7 rigid insulation; Drop the ceiling and install R-30 batt insulation; Energy Code Compliance for this building envelope: Building Design by Thermal Rating Method, Part 6. Compliance will require that the total thermal rating of the building design shall be no less than zero.
