I filed my application almost three weeks ago and paid the.$150 fee for a permit to replace an existing window in my home with a larger window. Because the work requires adding an additional support beam, the contractor felt we should get this permit. The drawings could not be simpler as they show the new window and the appropriate support beam in place. As I had not heard anything yet,I called the Town Building Department this morning and was told that there is a backlog of"twelve to sixteen weeks for fast track approvals". Because of present circumstances in my life related to when I can coordinate the actual construction work, this delay will cause me considerable hardship. I am greatly disappointed that neither my taxes nor the relatively high permit fee for such a simple project provide the Building Department with sufficient resources to process such permits promptly. In this age where consulting services and other resources are available as an effective management tool to provide good customer service, there should be a way to provide the Building Department with what they need to process simple permits quickly.
