The AAB Waterproofing Membrane should not be left exposed to sunlight for long periods of time. It is recommended that backfilling of the wall should take place within one week of application of the Waterproofing Membrane. When using any waterproofing product it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions,although generally the application will be as follows. Start by making an-indication on the wall of the approximate final grade location. This can done easily with a chalk or string line. Begin by cutting the membrane in vertical strips so that the membrane at the lower edge reaches at minimum, below the finished height of the concrete slab inside. Better building practice however,is to extend the:membrane down the wail and out over the surface of the footing so that it can shed water away from the wall surface directly out to the drain tile. Next,peel back the first 12"(305 mm)of release paper to expose the adhesive backing. Beginning at the approximate grade line,press the membrane against the wall while releasing the backing paper to expose more adhesive. Continue pressing the membrane against the wall while removing the release paper from behind. All overlapping joints between strips of membrane shall be no less than 2-1/2"(64 mm). To help the installer obtain the proper overlap,a guideline teas been applied to the surface of the membrane 2-1/2"(64 mm)from the edge. Inside and outside comers need to be reinforced and will require supplemental layers of membrane. Refer to the installation instructions included with each roll of membrane. Prior to backfill,it is strongly recommended that the membrane be supplied with a protection barrier. This protection can be found in many forms. The hard plastic sheets on which the Blue Maxx forms are shipped are intended to be used a protection sheet. Other materials that can be used include plywood,gypsum board, or other sheet materials. The ultimate purpose of the protection board is to prevent the accidental puncture of the membrane due to the backfill material being used. Additional water protection can be obtained by using free draining granular backfill materials. BLUE Contact your local technical representative for tips on cold weather installation. A grade Ao�a. 2.19.Below Grade Moisture Protection 2.19.1.Waterprooflng There are many waterproofing products on the market today. Perhaps the easiest to use is a'Peel'n'Stick'variety. BLUE MAv WAu.SYSrEM utilizes a'Peel'n'Stick'membrane which Is applied In the same manner as wallpaper. The membrane is hung in vertical strips 36"(9 15 mm)wide. Vertical joints are achieved by overlapping the membrane a minimum of 2 1/2"(65 mm). The membrane has a line printed on its surface to Indicate the proper overlap required. By extending a ribbon of fiber mesh over the top edge of the membrane,a drip edge is created which diverts rain water over the membrane edge and prevents leakage behind the membrane. (See Figure 16) Depending on the backfill material to be used, it is recommended that a protection barrier of some description be used. A protection barrier will serve at least two purposes. Firstly, it can provide protection during the backfill operation from large stones or rocks puncturing the membrane. Secondly,a protection barrier can provide lasting protection from frost action caused by clay-like soils that retain water and freeze.
