REGULAR MEETING
September 13, 2023 HELD IN PERSON (and via Zoom)
6:00 PM
Present: Gerard Orientale, Dan Goodwin, Curtis Rand-via Zoom for partial meeting
Jay Jansen, Derek Bossen, Frank Imbriano
This Regular Meeting of the Southold Town Tree Committee was called to order at 6:00 PM—this
was an in-person meeting and held via the Zoom Platform.
Approval of Minutes of meeting on August 16, 2023.
Discussion Items:
The Main topic of discussion at tonight's meeting was dedicated to the Committee's annual tree
planting and picking locations for this Fall. Curtis Rand (Fishers Island) would prefer to have
smaller trees to plant so that they could be planted with the use of shovels, as opposed to bigger
balled trees. He feels that these smaller trees would be easier to maintain by the Town people.
Gerard advised that the Committee will reach out to tree companies on Fishers Island this year to
provide trees to be planted,rather than our obtaining the trees here and having to transport over to
the Island. Curtis felt that Fishers Island may not even want any trees to actually be planted this
coming season.
We then went over with the members in attendance what possible locations they have mapped out
so far for this Fall. Discussed the staking of and organization of all the tree locations, possible
species and the placing of the door hangars at the various locations. Frank is to get me a quote for
4' wooden stakes.
Dan Goodwin advised us of locations which were to have major sidewalk renovations and to avoid
plantings in these areas.
We will next meet on October 18, 2023. This meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
