G. aENOINO ~I"1"">"_>, Property inspected; 700 SUI~II•IER LANE, pJ ~ ~t {{;,;.;~f,~.~'~f~~ SOUTHOLD, N.Y. ~l tk JUN 5 Date Inspected; JUNE 2, 1991 91 'ff~:f 1' ` BRIEF HISTORY A meeting was held between Ms. Genoino, Ms. Genoinos cousin, myself and Mark Finne, a general contractor on Sunday, June 2, 1991, at approximately 12:30 P.M.. The meeting was called to discuss the work perfomed for Ms. Genoino by Mark Finne, that is deemed unacceptable. Ms. Genoino and Mark Finne entered into a contract to , install a new roof, (2"x10" roof rafters, approximately" 16" on center', and rip off the existing roof in the living roomjkitchen area. An examination was made of the framing, and the follow- ing deficiencies were discussed between all parties. 1) The construction of the header over the bow window in the living room is improper. It was agreed that he would install the proper size micro-lam header on doubled 2x4,s and kingposts in accordance with building codes. The 2"x 8" just under the rafters is to be shimmed, so there is full bearing on the micro-lam. 2) The space between roof rafter sill plate installed by the contractor, and the originally installed top plate, is to be shimmed with 2" x4",s running conti- nously. This shimming is to be a snug fit so there is full bearing between each roof rafter top plate, and the top plate of the existing walls. There is to be no old roof material metal plate, foam or compressed board insulation left between the new and old top plates. Any problems found with this rafter header improvement over windows in the bedrooms will be corrected by the 1 proper header installation, as stated by the contrac- tor. 3) The builder is to install another 3"x6" roof rafter collar tie for additional reinforcement to prevent spreading of the roof rafters. 4) The builder has ageed to replace the center post under the ridge beam in the living room, with a full length 4"x4", (or two 2"x4",s), replacing the built up pieces that exist presently. He is also to insert a 2"x4" between the new 2"x4" gable studs, and the exit- ing top plate of the old structure. 5) The bow in the wall of the hallway may have been caused by some past weight, possibly by building mate- rials from the contractor in constructing the new roof. I recommend this wall be replaced with a new bearing wall to support the old roofing only. There is no evidence that this bow was caused by Mr. Finne. These costs may have to be born by the owner. The most cost effective time for this to be done, is when the sheet rock is replaced throughout the house. It was agreed to by Mr. Finne that labor costs for all corrective actions would be undertaken by the builder at no additional charge to Ms. Genoino. The builder did request that any additional materials be paid for by the owner. Ms. Genoino witheld her approval, and will notify the builder very shortly as to her position on this matter.
