Dear Transportation Committee:
We are writing to you on behalf of ourselves and our fellow residents on Youngs Avenue
to request that Youngs Avenue from Main Street to Route 48 be classified as a"No Parking”road
(A portion of Youngs Ave starting at Main St.is already designated as a No Parking road).
Many of us have noticed that since the opening of the new gas station and convenience
store(on the comer of Route 48 and Youngs Ave)the volume of traffic has increased
dramatically up and down this section of roadway. Additionally, the cars often speed and do not
obey the speed limit. This has created a dangerous situation for residents backing out of their
driveways.
Adding to this problem is a recently adopted bylaw of Founders'Village requiring
residents who have pickup trucks to not park inside of the complex but on the street. Nearly
everyday there are a couple of large vehicles parked day and night on Youngs Avenue. We have
reported this unsafe condition to the Southold Police Dept.who has come out on two occasions
and have agreed with us that this situation on Youngs Avenue(increased speeding traffic and
parked large vehicles)has created a safety concern. The last officer to respond said he would
bring up the issue at a town hall meeting and while we don't know if it is already being
addressed,we wanted to add our concerns and call upon the Transportation Committee to help us
restore safety to our beautiful roadway. One last note is that these parked vehicles are killing the
grass and not helping the new trees that the Town planted last year to thrive.
We very much appreciate your efforts to help us. Thank you.
Cordially,
Patricia F.Coyle

Town of Southold Traffic Committee September 13,2023
Attn:Ms,Miranda Wade
Ms.Sarah Nappa
Recently many of us living on Oak Street in Cutchogue were informed of the Town of Southold's
decision to out or remove a row of large rhododendrons at the curve near the southern end of
our street. These shrubs, which were planted in,1982,have grown into beautiful large
specimens and in the spring present our neighborhood with a wall of spectacular blooms-
t realize that safety must come first and while some trimming must be done to mitigate the
alleged unsafe condition,I hope it will be minimal since these older shrubs will not bloom after
severe pruning.I also want you to be aware that across from the southwest corner of 220 Oak
Street, the road appears to be on private property.
Once the rhododendrons are cut,it will unfortunately become more attractive to park there.
Already cars have been parked where someone earlier this year"trimmed"some of the
rhododendrons.Parked cars on this curve in the street will just be another safety hazard and
these bushes will have been cut for no reason.
I therefore request the Traffic Committee consider placing"No Parking"signs along the west
side of Oak Street as soon as,or before, the rhododendrons are cut.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Dear Ms. Wade,
Pat Poppe asked be to send you copies of my correspondence with Sarah Nappa, which I have now done.
Our group of residential neighbors of the Little Fish restaurant is unanimously in favor of the installation of No
Parking signs along both sides of North Sea Drive. We have all been advised and accept that will limit our own
ability to park there. Our group consists of the following members listed below, many of whom have young
grandchildren who play or bicycle or who walk dogs along North Sea Drive. I don't know for sure whether one of
the photographs that I forwarded to you from Pat Poppe shows the scene of two pedestrians struggling to climb
the shoulder on the northern side of North Sea Drive to bypass parked vehicles. I am very concerned that
pedestrians also have to face oncoming traffic in order to get around parked cars, subjecting them to the risk of
being hit by speeding or inattentive drivers.
In any event, our group consists of the following families: Paul and Deborah Belica; George Demos;Jordan and
Wendy Handler; Dominic Marvellia; Chris and Pat Poppe; Brian and Tara Reed; Cynthia and Tom Rosicki; Beverly
and Monroe Sonnenborn and Orestes and Evelyn Varvitsiotes.
In the past, we have found the new owners of the restaurant to be generally uncooperative and uncaring about
their location in the midst of an entirely residential neighborhood. Instead, they have insisted on their"right"to
run their restaurant however they pleased. They have not even take the simple step of painting lines in their
large parking lot which would create a more orderly situation and reduce or eliminate the overflow created by
the absence of clearly delineated parking spaces, which apparently encourages customers to park instead along
both sides of North Sea . They are operating their restaurant in a manner that indicates that they are unaware or
don't care that its very existence is subject to a 2003 ZBA decision that substantially limited the scope and hours
of their operation in an effort to make sure that the restaurant would not be operated as a bar or nightclub that
would be inconsistent with its location in an entirely residential neighborhood.
Finally, although you will see from my attempts to reach Sarah Nappa that I didn't want to travel to Southold
without knowing whether I would be on your agenda tomorrow, I could attend remotely by Zoom. The problem
is that when I briefly joined your meeting in August, I was told that the feature that would allow me to
participate was not working on your end and that I should try to attend your September meeting instead.
