1. Minutes accepted as written
2. Rational Speed Limits (East Marion's#25 reduction just instituted by NYSDOT)-Sarah reported that she
brought the recommendations to the Town Board, the Town Attorney explained that it would be better to create a
town-wide 30 MPH limit (minus#25 and #48) and then exclude Sound Ave (now 45MPH), any north-south
collectors and school zones by specifying which streets should be higher. NOTE: The Transportation Commission
needs to study the streets between #25 and #48 ASAP and recommend to the Town Board which, if any, should
be higher than 30 and how high. Sarah would prefer that the same road does not change speeds as many now
do. Dan provided his color-coded map and Sarah will share her notes with each north-south connection from one
end of Town to the other. Please note that the highest is 40MPH and only on Depot, Cox, Elijahs and Aldrich.
Oddly Bridge is 40MPH but only north of#48 to Oregon. Chapel and Moores Lane have no records.
3. Soundview Motel Update: Lighting and speed studies? No news.
4. Charging Stations. Sarah explained that a program called Evolve NY by NYSERDA has a goal of putting
charging stations every 50 miles and so six spaces will be provided behind the Annex on Youngs and #25 to serve
the North Fork. They will be Level II. Sarah McLoughlin has been the point person. Sarah is interested in the Town
initiating other locations.
5. Trash Issue. Bravo Sarah on Earth Day ad! No further ideas but still a concern.
6. County traffic task force. Chief and Randy attended, Sarah could not get on but watched after. We need to
discuss what goals we hope to achieve from continuing the Task Force beyond the study that they recently
completed. One suggestion was to improve "last mile" connections to transit.Another is to share our concern for a
sidewalk connection from the "Hamlet"zoned Vineyard View to the school/village.
7. Restriping#25 summer or Fall, though the shoulder and centerline were just installed: We discussed a
response for the Town Board to send with specifics:
A. Thank you for seeking improvements at#25 and Oaklawn. Please explore a design solution that does not
remove parking and that allows a full-sized bus to make the eastbound right-turn and westbound left-turn.
B. Thank you for proposing safety markings for Main Bayview and #25. Providing guidance for more predictable
movements should improve safety.
C. Please design a marking plan for a banned southbound left-turn from Love Lane to#25. The traffic volumes
are Weekday 10 vehicles in the AM peak hour and 13 in the PM peak.A screen shot of the volumes for the
Saturday peak hour are attached showing only 14 vehicles. The SB right-turn onto#25 and EB left-turn onto
Love Lane would remain.
D. Thank you for adding Sharrow markings in Southold where there is curbside parking. Please extend from
Tuckers Lane to Town Harbor Lane. We would also like to see them where on-street parking exists in
Cutchogue between Cases Lane and Depot Lane; and in East Marion between Old Orchard Road and Bay
Avenue. East Marion residents have been especially concerned about ferry traffic making crossing the road at
the post-office a problem. The markings might make drivers use more caution.
E. We look forward to reviewing the engineered designs.
8. Transportation Funding Needs. Tabled.
9. New Business.
10. Next Meeting: TBD
