1. Motion to accept the minutes of the October meeting.Approved
2. Bike racks and educational programs – It was decided that a holistic packet based on Comp Plan
(complete streets)would be best to convince the Town Board of transportation funding priorities.A
subcommittee of the commission will work on this. (Randy and Eric)
3. High Priority Intersections -As discussed at the previous meeting, would a ban on southbound left-
turns reduce the safety problems at Acklerly Pond/#25/Main Bayview? It would need NYSDOT
approval. Should TC make recommendation to TB for no SB left turn and channelization into right
turns only to DOT? Motion to make a recommendation to Town Board to work on no left turns.
Tabled until we have the crash reports from the Chief. Love Lane: There is 50K in the budget that
could be used for Love Lane engineering plan however it would not allow any other projects such
drainage plans.
4. Traffic safety grants: Police get them for seatbelts, DWI's, not much funds. No DOT/FTA safety
grants used by other departments.
5. Rational speed limits: Dan reported that the state has not found records for streets the town has
not yet found. He is digging in to find the missing records. Randy brought up the difference
between submitting the request form to change a street speed that requires a traffic study and a
request for an area or town—wide speed limit that does not require a traffic study or individual
street names. The State DOT guidance recommends 30 MPH, at least it did prior to the new
legislation that allows 25 MPH. Dan will share his spreadsheet that shows speed limits on most
town streets to influence whether TC will recommend 30 MPH, except for the two through streets of
#25 and #48, to the TB. Concern was expressed about lowering to 25 MPH. Dan asked why we
were considering this and Sarah explained that we often get individual requests to lower speeds
from 35 MPH and we wanted to approach systematically rather than piecemeal as previously. The
latest request awaiting resolution on the question is Ole Jule Lane: Request to lower speed limit
from 35 to 25.
6. Soundview Motel: Waiting on response from SCDPW on the lights proposed for the crosswalks.
7. Policy on street naming: Margaret put together a criteria list for this. Dan had the idea to refer
people to the memorial tree with a plaque instead of a street sign. Charlie will tell them a tree might
be a better idea and see if they go for that instead.
8. Locating affordable housing re: transportation/parking policies. What is the commission's policy on
this? Sarah: Look at Housing Plan and make recommendations on future implementation.
9. Sidewalks: Sidewalk from Vineyard View to Moore's Lane would e a good candidate for a grant and
should be included in the overall funding plan.
10. Charging Stations. Recommend to Town Board they do an RFP on town-owned property for
charging stations. ID the parking lots, and see what gets proposed. Maybe % of the size of the lot.
Motion to recommend to the Town Board was approved.
11. New Business
A. Trash issue—there is a lot of trash in the roadway vegetation (noticed by cyclists). Talk more
about littering and "adopt a street" program to clean up trash. Some civics are engaged. Charlie
Peck will come up with some criteria for next meeting.
12. Next Meeting will be December 12th
