Commissioner David Bergen opened the meeting at 6:00 P.M. in the meeting room of
the Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library.
Comm. Bergen moved to approve minutes of the May 25, 2023 meeting. As there was
no second, motion failed. Comm. Bergen asked Comm. Vail why he would not approve
minutes. Comm. Vail stated that he would approve these minutes if Comm. Bergen
would approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Comm. Bergen stated that the
vote on one set of minutes has nothing to do with a motion on a different set of minutes.
Comm. Bergen stated that all that he had asked for were minimal changes in the April
minutes to reflect the inclusion of Lori Hulse comments related to her conversation with
a representative of the Department of Justice plus the accuracy of a comment made by
another individual.
Public Comments on Agenda (Resolutions) items. No comments from public.
Resolution 23-0029 —Approval to advertise an RFP for the construction of a parking
facility within Allison Park. Comm. Bergen made a motion to approve Resolution
23-0029. Motion was seconded by Comm. Picchione. Voting showed Comm. Bergen -
Yes, Comm. Picchione - Yes, and Comm. Vail - No. Motion was approved.
Sharon Kelly — What is an RFP?
Comm. Bergen — Request For Proposals for any project over $5,000.00.
Sharon Kelly — If a tree is removed, can it be put into RFP to replace it?
Comm. Bergen — Board can make a recommendation to replace trees. Tree would be
replaced with new tree 1-3 inches around. One tree was taken down as a safety
measure and other trees were trimmed at Allison Park.
Sharon Kelly — Can trees be replaced with native plants?
Comm. Bergen — He is in favor of using native plantings, but he cannot speak for the
other commissioners.
Question from the audience inquiring about progress on installing bike racks.
Comm. Bergen — Have e-mailed Lions Club representative and has not had a reply.
Richard Jordan- does RFP contain a van parking space?
Comm. Bergen stated RFP has three parking spaces. One ADA complaint, one regular
and one for unloading.
Richard Jordan —ADA requires a van space, if no van space, could result in lawsuit.
After making his comments, Mr. Jordan came forward and submitted paperwork to
Comm. Vail, requesting that this be entered into the minutes.
Comm. Bergen - I do not appreciate those comments.
Question regarding port-a-potties. Why are there two at Dave Allison Park, none at
Nassau Point Park.
Comm. Bergen — There are none at Nassau Point Park because of vandalism and use
by contractors, as recommended by vendor.
Audience member— People are using grassy area between fence and building. Potties
are required for construction sites.
Comm. Bergen — Will discuss this in the fall.
Audience member— I would like to see parity between parks.
Comm. Bergen — also mentioned the installation of a new picnic/BBQ area at Nassau
Point along with that our handyman is now repairing the walkway and a new lifeguard
stand is in.
Audience member- Ramp is used by cars, parking area not painted nor swept.
Comm. Bergen — Stated that this will be discussed in the fall.
Motion to adjourn — Seconded and passed unanimously.
Meeting adjourned at 6:15 P.M.
