APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
This application must be filled in by typewriter OR ink and submitted to the building
inspector with the following: for new building or new use:
1. Final survey of property with accurate location of all buildings, property lines,
streets, and unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final Approval from Health Dept. of water supply and sewerage-disposal(S-9 form).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board of Fire Underwriters.
4. Sworn statement from plumber certifying that the solder used in system contains
less than 2/10 of i% lead.
5. Commercial building, industrial building, multiple residences and similar buildings
and installations, a certificate of Code Compliance from architect or engineer
responsible for the building.
6. Submit Planning Board Approval of completed site plan requirements.
For existing buildings (prior to April 9, 1957) non-conforming uses, or buildings and
"pre-existing" land uses:
1. Accurate survey of property showing all property lines, streets, building and
unusual natural or topographic features.
2. A properly completed application and a consent to inspect signed by the applicant.
If a Certificate of Occupancy is denied, the Building Inspector shall state the
reasons therefor in writing to the applicant.

Dear Ms. Aldous-Small:
In response to your letter of January 4, 1996 you were
correct in assuming that Building Permit #21625-Z was for a
shed. The permit was written August 30, 1993 and as our letter
stated, this permit has expired.
Your next course of action would be to have one of our
inspectors, at your request, go out and do a final inspection
providing the shed is up and completed. Then a Certificate of
Occupancy application must be filled out and a $25.00 check
payable to the Town of Southold is due to us. If it is not
completed, you have to take out a new Building Permit to replace
the old one at the cost of $35.00, again a check payable to the
Town of Southold. To answer your question regarding a third
party to handle the necessary steps, that is no problem
whatsoever.

Thank you for your lettm' of the 27th. Dec. 95 wifich arrived this morning. U~ffo~unately
there is no date on the build'rog permit perta~g to my Pecouic property. When I
searched through all the records of this property I found that all was in order. My panic
was unnecessary. I have searched my mem~>ry for some other item that it was necessary
for nm to obta'm a building permit. The only firing that I could come up with was the shed
in the back yard that we bought and the tenants erected accord'rog to the town regulations.
Is this the object that now needs a certificate o1' occupancy? The Shed was purchased in
the August of 93. The tenants constructed the stmd sometime in the winter of 93/4; I am
unsure when. My husbm~d m~d I were in the midst of our removal to 2dbuquerque for
nmch of lhis time. We had asked our tOllflll[b m 111~{~ thc ne~ds of tim town, and it seems
that the dkt not do so.
At present, we would like some advice on how to proceed. Obviously a quick trip to
Southold is out of the question. May we appoint a third party to apply for the cert'nficate
or to initiate a new applicatinn for the building permit and certificate of occupancy.
We look forward to hearing from you so that this matter may be rectified quickly.

During a review of our files it was noted that the above
building permit has expired, and a Certificate of Occupancy has
never been issued.
According to the Code of the Town of Southold, Article
XXVIII 100-284, it is unlawful to occupy or use a structure
until a Certificate of Occupancy has been issued.
Please contact this office as soon as possible so that we
may clear up this matter.
