The Southold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Lester M.
Al~ertson, at Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, August 29, 1961, at 3:00 P.M.
with the following present:~ Supervisor Albertson; councilmen Demarest-and
Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Supt. 'of Highways Price and TOwn
Clerk Richmond.

RESOLVED= That Frank Dawson of New Suffolk, N.Y. be and he hereby "is' '
appointed, subject to the written~ approval of the District' Smperint~end~t
of Schools, Attendance Officer of all schools throu]~hout the Town,
such schools as are otherwise provided for by Section 3213 of the Education
Law, and be it further
RESOLVED: That such Attendance Officer shall be removable at the pleasure-
of the District Superintendent of Schools, and be it further ~
RESOLVED: That the compensation for Such Attendance Officer be fixed~ at
$1200.00 per year payable in regular monthly installments, he to pay~his
own expenses, and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is inetructed to not~ify
Frank S. Dawson and the District 'Superintendent of Schools of this appoi~t-

WHEREAS, Beatrice Hodgins requests a 35 MPH limit on Route 27A in
Southold, N.Y. between Bowery Lane, east to the beginning of the
cement Road,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is
authorized to co~,tunicate with the State Traffic Commission and request
it to establish maximum speed limits of 35 MPH on Route 27A, Southold,
N.Y. from Bowery'Lane to the beginm~ng of the cement road, and be it
further resolved that the Supervisor fUrther communicate with the Comm-
issioner of Public Works and request him'to make a similar request to
the NeW York State Traffic Commission.

authorized to communicate with the state Traffic Commission and request
it to place a red stop light in front of the ~outhold Fire House, and
that the Supervisor further communicate with the Co~,issioner ~of Public
Works and request' him to make a similar re~/uest'to the New YOrk State'
Traffic Commission.

ing be a legal charge against the Town.

RESOLVED: That Otto Anri~, Police Chief (Constable) of the Town of
Southold, be a~he hereby is authorized to attend N~ional Police Con-
ference, New York, Septl 15, 16 and 17, 1961 and be it further
RESOLVED: That the necessary expenses incnrred while attending said
conference be a legal charge against the Town.

The Supervisor and Beach Committee (Justice clark and Councilman Grathwohl)
were instructed by the Board to investigate the purchase of Beach proper-
ty throughout the Town.
A letter was read from Paul Mamola concerning traffic and clamming in the
Town of Southold. The letter was turned overto Chief of Police for proper
action. ~
The Supervisor was directed to contact the L.I.R.R. advising them of
Bridge conditions over Mill Creek.
The Supervisor was directed to investigate the .possibility of establishing
a roadside park adjacent to Route 25 between Southold and Greenport.

The Town Board reconvened at the Supervisor's Office, Greenport, N.Y.
at 7:30 P.M. The hearing on the application of Woodhollow Properties, Inc.
Orient, N.Y. was opened by Councilman Demarest at 7:300 P.M. The minutes
of this ~ hearing were recorded by J~dith Boken. Supervisor Albertson was
absent from this meeting.

WHEREAS, Woodhollow Properties, Inc., Orient, N.Y. b~ petition verified
the 2nd day of June, 1961, petitioned the Town Board for a change of zone
of certain real property described in 'said petition from "A" Residential
and Agricultural District to "B" Business District, and
WHEREAS, · the said ~petition was referred to the Planning Board for its
official recommendation and report, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board pursuant to due notice thereof, held a hearing
thereon on August 29, 1961, at which time all interested persons were
given an opportunit~ to be heard, ~
NOW~ THEREFORE, BE. IT RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Building Zone
Ordinance including the Buildfng Zone Maps be amended by changing from
"A" Residential and AGricultural District' to "B" Business District the
following described property:
ALL ~that c ertain tract or parcel of land situated at Orient, in the Town
~of ~outhold, Suffolk County, New York, and more particularly bounded and
described as follows:
BEG~NING at a point on the southerly side of the Main Road which point
mar~s the northwesterly corner of premises herein described and the north-'
· easterly corner of land of the State of New York; thence running along the
southerly side of Main Road, North 87° 09' 20" East 151.72 feet to land
of the United States Governmnet; thence running by last mentioned land,
South 11° 43' 20" East 752 feet, to the ordinary highwater mark of Gardin-
