HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/21/2023 SOUTHOLD TOWN TREE COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING June 21, 2023 HELD IN PERSON (and via Zoom) 6:00 PM Present: Gerard Orientale, Jay Jansen, Jill Doherty, David Gamberg This Regular Meeting of the Southold Town Tree Committee was called to order at 6:00 PMā€”this was an in-person meeting and held via the Zoom Platform. (There were no Zoom Attendees). Discussion Items: Gerard reported to us that all went well with the recent tree dedication at Southold School in memory of Dylan Newman. We firmed up plans for participation in the 4th of July Parade, which is to be held in Southold on Tuesday,July 4,2023. We will meet at around 11:00 a.m. on Boisseau near Sea Tow and everyone is asked to wear their T- shirts. Diane is to send out a reminder a few days before the parade to the Committee. We reviewed the email we received from Superintendent of Highways, Dan Goodwin regarding the taking down of certain trees on Love Lane. Dan will be speaking to us about what type of trees to plant on Love Lane in the future, taking into consideration the existing conditions on Love Lane. We then discussed the Locust trees which have been taken down at Tasker Park on Peconic Lane, and what to possibly replace with in the future. Gerard would very much like for members to narrow down Fall tree planting locations, utilizing the maps which he created, so that by the end of August we have definite locations. He reviewed for our newer member(s) that the Committee does not plant on State, County or private roads. Jay reported that the "gator bags" which have been placed on some of the newly planted trees are dry and require water. We discussed that we should also create a winter prune list for maintenance. adjourned at 7:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Diane DiSalvo
