This property is owned by us: Taryn and Brendan Callahan and was purchased 6 years ago. Because of the fact that our son, Shane Callahan who was adopted at a month old, has medical issues and special needs, we lived in Hartsdale New York with my parents in order for him to get the medical and academic services he needed. My son has a rare genetic disorder called Behget's disease and requires a very clean environment. I also have medical issues and am currently on Social Security Disability and need help to manage everything with me and my son. Also, during that time, my husband lost his job due to the death of his employer Kobe Bryant and Covid and was unemployed for over a year. Right now, he travels over 4 hours a day to work in Melville and is earning less than half of his former income and spending a tremendous amount on travel and tolls. Our major hardship came on September 1, 2021 when Hurricane Ida flooded our walk-in-apartment with 6 feet of raw sewage, where we lived and resided during the weekdays at the home of my parents. We lost, everything in the walk in apartment: all our furniture, electronics, clothes, shoes, medicines, all my son's toys and sensory equipment and all our files and memories. We had to move upstairs in my parent's home and the three of us live in one bedroom with whatever we were able to purchase after our losses. Even though we had renters insurance, we received nothing from the insurance company and received just enough from FEMA to cover my son's medicine. As a result of this loss, we are unable to remain in the Hartsdale house and with the cost of the re-construction my parents had to sell the house. My parents are retired with their own medical issues and my father who had triple by-pass surgery and heart valve replacement is also a disabled Vietnam Vet. So naturally, we need to stay together as a family to help one another and we are hoping to get as much of the construction in Mattituck done before our move to avoid more medical 1 complications. As of April 7, the Hartsdale house was sold and my parents will be renting until the end of June so that our son can complete his special needs kindergarten program and continue to his medical treatment plans before everything is transferred and we move permanently to Mattituck. Shane has been through so much, as we all have, and we need to provide as much of a smooth transition as possible. We had hoped when we came to the decision to move to Mattituck at the end of last year that the construction would be started and be close to completion by April 1. Now we are in desperate need for the septic and addition to be completed so that we can move. We received our approval for the septic on Monday, April 4 with the assistance of Craig Knepper of waste water management of Suffolk county. We are desperately appealing for the building permit review and approval to be expedited so that the septic system can be completed and the construction started.
