ROute 55 shows typical Canadian Instalislion.
In installations other than Canada, combustible
mantels aud trim may be installed 12' (30Sram)

Methods Of Determining Headh
ExtensioA And Wail Shield Equivalents
To determine the thickness required tot any
desired matarial when either the k or r values
T. ~, Thickness of desired material in inches
k, -- k v~lue of desired material
r,~ = r value of desired material
T~ = Minimum listed thickness
Example: Mlcore CV230 is to be used with the
CSTfireplace. How thick must this material De?
Using the k formula:
Desired k value ct desired Min. ~ickness
Required = mat~dal (per inch) x of Lis'ed

Answer using k = .51 x 3/8" = 0.19 or rounded

At times it is impodant to know what combina-
tions of materiels are acceptable for use as
hearth extensions. The 'R values' are used to
determine acceptable combinations of materi-
als because 'R valUe~: ~re ~,dditive where r and
k values are not.
