RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, 290 Skippers Lane, Orient,NY, is on the Town of Southold Registry of Historic
Landmarks; and
WHEREAS, as set forth in Section 170-6 of the Town Law (Landmarks Preservation Code) of
the Town of Southold, all proposals for material change/alteration must be
reviewed and granted a Certificate of Appropriateness by the Southold Town
Historic Preservation Commission prior to the issuance of a Building Permit; and
WHEREAS, the applicants submitted a proposal on May 11, 2023, to install a Generator
attached to an existing single family dwelling; and
WHEREAS, the proposed shielding of the generator consists of three (3) feet high White Vinyl
Picket Fence with vegetative shrubbery, depicted on site plan and elevation detail
received May 11, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the Commission has determined that pursuant to Chapter 170-4(E)(2) of the
Southold Town Code, the Commission has the authority to determine that some
proposals do not rise to the level of requiring a public hearing, as the proposal is de
minimus in nature; and
WHEREAS,the Commission has determined that the subject application is de minimus in nature
and therefore does not require a Public Hearing, and
WHEREAS, the applicant shall submit to the Commissioners photographs of the finished
improvements upon completion; and

WHEREAS, the Commissioners may conduct a site inspection of subject premises once
improvements are completed; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that the Southold Town Historic Preservation
Commission determines that the three (3) feet High White Vinyl Picket Fence and
vegetative shrubbery shielding a Generator attached to an existing single family
dwelling, as depicted on site plan and elevation detail received May 11, 2023, in
the above referenced application, meets the criteria for approval under Section
170-8 (A) of the Southold Town Code; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the Commission approves the request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness, subject to approvals by all involved agencies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that any deviation from the approved plans referenced above
may require further review from the Commission.

Dear Town of Southold Historic Preservation Commission,

My husband,Tony, and I are applying for a full house generator to be installed by Peconic Power
Systems. We are located at 290 Skippers Lane on the corner with Oysterponds Lane in Orient,
and our home is in the historic district.
Attached you will find:
1. Southold Historic Preservation Commission application
2. Notice of Disapproval
3. Information on the Generac guardian series generator we wish to install
4. Two sets of plans to enclose, shield and hide the generator.
a. Enclose the area with three foot high evergreens in accordance with
specifications from Peconic Power Systems concerning distances for the
generator function, and to the house. This is our preferred plan.
b. Enclose the area with a three foot high picket fence in accordance with
specifications from Peconic Power Systems concerning distances for the
generator function, and to the house.
The generator will not be seen from the front of the house on Skipper's Lane since it will be
located at the rear behind the house. Our yard is surrounded on three sides by privet hedges
and in addition, a fence on to side with our neighbor at 220 Skippers Lane.That neighbor, Lucy
Stille, also has a generator facing our house behind the fence and privet hedge.
The generator will also not be seen from Oysterponds Lane roadway because the high privet
hedge will obstruct the view.
Peconic Power Systems has already submitted to Southold Buildinglnspector the survey,
insurance coverage, workman's comp coverage, as well as the electrical and building permits.
May 25th
I believe we have covered the requirements of the application and would like to be fitted into
the May25th meeting if possible since we might not be able to attend the June 22"d meeting.
