It is always nice to know that someone is satisfied with our work. Your question concerning the fee for your building permit is understandable and I will try to help you understand how this fee was generated. The current Building Department fee schedule for single family dwellings is as follows: New dwellings, additions, decks & alterations including deck additions to existing dwellings - 75.00 plus $0.20 for each sq.ft. of floor area in excess of 850 sq.ft. The following criteria was used to determine your fee. Basement area: 2,629 S.F. First floor area: 2,629 S.F. Garage area: 565 S.F. Decks& covered porch area: 663 S.F. Total area: 6,486 S.F. - 850 S.F. 5,636 S.F. x $0.20 = $ 1,127.20 Initial Fee $ 75.00 Additional Fee + S 1,127.20 Total Fee: = 1$ .202.20 At this time, I can not compare the fees from other permits without specific plans to evaluate.
