PRINCE STREET, RANDOLPH, VERMONT 05060 USA 802/728-3111 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - y, RESOLUTE GLASS DOOR KIT DATE: REVISED: CHECKED: I h PRINTED IN USA COPYRIGIIT!Q80 VERMONT CASTINGS INC. - RESOLUTE GLASS INSTALLATION PACKAGE The glass in this package is specially designed to withstand the high heat temperatures produced by your Resolute Stove. Although the glass is very durable, be sure to handle it carefully; the glass may chip if it is dropped against a hard surface. The edges of the glass may also be sharp. It is important that you follow these directions carefully to insure a proper installation. After you have installed the glass and before you fire up your stove, read over the section titled "Cleaning the Glass". TOOLS: Scissors, masking tape, or any tape which can be easily removed and will not leave a gum film on the glass, large #2 Phillips head screwdriver, wire brush or scraper, small block of wood.* . MATERIALS: • Left and right glass piece. (There is not front or back to the glass; the glass pieces may be used interchangeably.) • Window gasket . Frame PROCEDURE: . Remove the door from the stove front, brush off any ash and soot, then place it inside up on a level working surface. * . With your large Phillips head screwdriver, remove the four flat head screws and insert tabs which hold the cast iron insert in place. You will re-use the screws to secure the glass frame. The four tabs should be saved in case you wish to re-install the insert at a later time. . Pry the insert loose with the tip of your screwdriver. Using your wire brush or scraper, clean the area around the fanlight opening of any soot and ash. It is important that this area be as clean as possible. The window gasket which rests against this surface must lie flat in order to provide a good seal between the door and the glass. * The "D" handle is vulnerable to breaking when it is placed on its face. We recommend that you rest the weight of the door on a small block of wood to prevent this from happening. #a3b7-7 . Place the two glass pieces side by side as shown. Tape the pieces together; place one piece of masking tape on each side of the glass. Since you will need to remove the masking tape /T///when you are through, be sure that it will not / get caught by the window gasket or frame when the glass is installed. . It is necessary to wrap the window gasket around the entire perimeter of the glass. To help you hold the window gasket in place while - you are doing this: . Strip about Y' of gasket material from one end of the window gasket ribbon. . At about the position shown in the illustra- tion, tape the stripped ribbon to the glass edge with a small piece of masking tape. - . Continue to wrap the window gasket around the glass; press the window gasket down againstZ the edge of the glass as you go to make certain / that the glass is well inserted into the channel. . When you arrive back at the start, lift the masking tape which is holding the window gasket 43 in place and butt the two ends of the window gasket together. Press the masking tape back down over both ends of the window gasket. The masking tape will hold the window gasket in place o until it is compressed and secured by the frame. . Carefully set the glass into place. It is very important that the window gasket is centered evenly on both sides of the glass(#5). With the tip of your scissors, push or pull the window gasket until it is properly centered. . Set the frame into place above the glass. Put the four flat head screws into the screw holes in the frame and alternately tighten them down. Alternately tightening the screws will insure that even pressure is exerted against the glass by the frame; it will also help to keep the holes in the frame aligned with those in the door. Do not over tighten the screws as this will prevent the glass from moving slightly as it contracts and expands. Remove the masking tape from the glass. ==% Cleaning Your Glass #s Periodically you may wish to clean your glass. Before doing so, it is important that the glass is completely cool. If any cleaning agent is applied to the glass while it is hot, it may become permanently etched into the glass. Once the glass is cool, soap and water, ashes and water, or any common glass cleaner will do the job. Again, be sure to remove all traces of the cleaner and dry the glass before you fire up your stove, or damage to the glass may result. Caution If at any time you notice tha your glass is damaged, replace it immediately. Use only Vermont Castings high temperature glass, which is specially designed for safe stove operation. Replacement glass and window gasket can be ordered directly by mail or may be picked up at our Randolph Showroom. BOARD OF HEALTH . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..
