APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
This application must be filled in by typewriter OR ink and submitted to the building
inspector with the following: for new building or new use:
1. Final survey of.property with accurate location of all buildings, property lines,
streets, and unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final Approval from Health Dept. of water supply~and sewerage-disposal(S-9 form).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board o{ Fire Underwriters.
4. Sworn statement from plumber certifying that the solder used in system contains
less than 2/10 of 1% lead.
5. Commercial building, industrial building, multiple residences and similar buildings
and installations, a certificate of Code Compliance from architect or engineer
responsible for the building.
Submit Planning Board Approval of completed site plan requirements.
B. For existing buildings (prior to April 9, 1957) non-conforming uses, or buildings and

TITLE 9 EXECUTIVE
(c) Conversions listed in this subdivision shall be exempt from the requirements of Part 1232
of this Title. unless additional work such as alterations, addition, repairs or relocation require
compliance. See sections 1231.3, 1231,4 and 1231.5 of this Part. In any case, these conversions
must comply with the appropriate requirements for tim protection equipment, emergency power
and emergency lighting as found in Parts 721, 744 and 774 and Parts 1032 and 1033 of
Subchapter B of this Title.
(I) A1 fromA2;

(3) C3 from C3 where the hazard classification is reduced;
(4) C4 from C4 where the hazard classification is reduced;
(5) C6.1 fromC6.2.
(d) Where the use of a building or portion thereof is changed to a dance hall, nightclub or
similar use, or an area of public assembly intended or designed for an occupancy of 100 or more
persons, except such areas used solely as places of worship, the converted apace, accessory spaces
and the means of egress therefrom shall be provided with a fire sprinkler system installed in
conformity with section 1060.4 of this Title.
(e) A one-family dwelling is permitted to be used as a bed and breakfast dwelling defined in
accordance with section 606.3(a) of this Title, under the following conditions:
(1) No bedrooms for transient use shall bo located above the second story.
(2) A fire safety notice shall be affixed to the occupied side of the entrance door of each
bedroom for transient use indicating:
(i) means of egress;
(ii) location of means for transmitting fire alarras, if any; and
(iii) evacuation procedures to be followed in the event of a fire or smoke condition or
upon activation of a fire or smoke detecting or other alarm device.
(3) Means of egress shaI1 include at least one of the following alternatives:
(i) a special sprinkler tnstadation conforming to the requirements of section 1060.4(g) of
this Tide protecting all interior st05rs serving as a means of egress;
(ii) an exterior stair conforming to the requirements of section 713.1 of this Title
providing a second means of egress from all above grade stories or levels; or
(iii) an opening for emergency use conforming to the requirements of section 714.1 (b)
and (c) of this Title within each bedroom for transient use, such opening to have a sill not
more than 14 feet above level grade directly below and as permanent equipment, a portable
escape ladder which attaches securely to such sill. Such ladder shall be constructed with rigid
rungs designed to standoff from the building wall, shall be capable of sustaining a minimum
load of 1.00O pounds, shall extend to grade, and provide unobstructed egress to legal open
space.
(4) Smoke-detecting alarm devices, installed in conformity with section 1060.10 of this
Title, sbal[ he provided ~utside each separate sleeping area, in each sleeping space and on each
floor level.

(a) Alterations shall comply with Subchapter B except as modified by Part 1236 of this Title,
and except that minor alterations are permitted to be made in buildings with like or similar
materials to those existing. Minor alterations include changes or modifications in a building or
