Present: Craig Jobes, Jim McMahon, John Hanson, Arnold Blair,John Wittenberg, John Rasweiler, John Haas and Nancy Foote Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Craig Jobes at 6:30 PM. Minutes from May 17, 2022 meeting were approved with two suggested corrections. The new freezers purchased with grant money have arrived. Grant money has been extended one year due to Covid. Craig currently has (2) two bids for butchering. East End Wildgame and Tommy Lombardi. The butchering for the upcoming season will also be funded by grant money. It was suggested that if additional money is needed for processing the Town may allow use of CPF money for that difference. Craig will speak with Melissa Spiro. Craig is working with Venison Coalition to try and revitalize their program. He is currently working with a representative from LI Cares to try to increase the payment to butchers for each deer processed. State needs to change pricing. With the closing of Fish Unlimited most of Long Island is scrambling to find local processors. Alison suggested partnering with Shelter Island which has their own in-house program. Follow up with Al Krupski to discuss initiating a processing program in Yaphank that has been previously suggested. The building behind Peconic Community Center in Peconic will be the new home of the Town deer donation program office and DEC check station. The building has been cleaned out and is ready for necessary renovations. Documents have been sent to Comptroller for signature for purchase of materials needed. The "shed"will house the freezers, trailer, computer and printer. 2022 season will once again have an early season from September 10— September 18. Regular season will begin October 1. All properties from 2021 season will be included with exception of Carroll Ave property.Possible new property- 43 acre Laurel Ave property in Southold. Fifty-three hunters have registered for the Town program to date. There has not much interest in the early season. Craig is waiting on bonus tags from the DEC. EDH may be a concern this year. DEC reported two deer have come in with the disease. The disease badly affected the deer population last year. The drought this year has kept no-see-ums bugs away. Pilot program discussed at recent news conference had some misinformed outfall reported in Newsday and will be handled by Jodi Giglio's office. There was no focus on crossbows. It was suggested to write a rebuttal and have the Town Board submit it to the local paper. It was decided to have Assemblywoman Giglio or Assemblyman Thiel's office handle it. Survey will be mailed out within a week to property owners with two or more acres for potential hunting. 1 Arnold gave a brief report on the Orient Forum on Deer Management. There were over seventy-five people in attendance. Greg explained the Town program and Arnold, the Nassau Point program. John Haas will ask Mattituck Gun Club about offering a hunting course.
