Call to order 6:35pm Present: Councilperson Greg Doroski, Arnold Blair, John Rasweiler, Jeff Standish, Adam West, Jim McMahon, John Whittenburg, John Haas, John Hansen, Craig Jobes and Alison Delaney via phone Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Craig Jobes at 6:30 PM Motion made by Blair to accept previous minutes, second by Rasweiler. Opening discussion on 2022 statistics to date. The group discussed the decrease in harvest numbers as well as decrease in MVAs. Standish spoke about lack of fawns this season. Blair reported Nassau Point numbers down as well. Standish spoke about Suffolk Time's article from December upsetting many of the recreational hunters and how they are perceived. Whittenburg stated that the committee should have responded to Newsday and Suffolk Times articles in a timely manner. Rasweiler stated reporting is frequently misconstrued. Standish stated an article should be put out showing the positives that have come from the Town deer management committee and deer management program. Jobes brought up the opinion in Suffolk times written by Mike Domino regarding crossbows. McMahon stated crossbows are far more productive. Whittenburg asked if we should write response to Domino article. Group decided to hold off on writing responses to the articles with state assembly meetings being so close. Jobes discussed mailing responses to date and will bring back full results at next meeting. Doroski discussed chances of new legislation passing and discussed assemblyman Thiele's thoughts on the legislation. Jobes presented the current status of the upcoming nuisance program. How many hunters,properties, bait sites etc. The permit is set to arrive Friday 1/27/23 and an email will go out shortly after. Jobes presented the opening of Spring Turkey in 2023. He plans to bring the proposal to the Town Board to open the town properties to spring turkey hunting for archery only.
