Recreation and Historic Preservation ((]PRHP). VVe have reviewed the submitted materials in accordance with the New York State Historic Preservation Act of 1980 (Section 14.09 of the New York Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law). These comments are those of the Division for Historic Preservation and nm|atu only to Historic/Cultural resources. We have reviewed the report of the Phase |A archaeological study. The report correctly states that there are no previously recorded Native American archaeological sites shown in OPRHP's OD|iOe system (CR|8) within one OOi|B of the project area. HOweVB[' the GOUthO|d |Ddi8O Museum has the field notebooks of the late Charles Goddard, former president of the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association and resident of Mattituck. Mr. Goddard's 1922 field notebook indicates that he identified Native American artifacts along the M8ttitUCk Creek iO the vicinity Of the project 8[e8. |f any additional archaeological reports are submitted for this project, OPR||Preo0nnnn8ndnth@t this information be included in the report. OPRHP has scans of the Goddard field notebooks and can direct you to the digital files in CR|S.
